Football: Guardiola: I left Barcelona because I could not motivate players any more...

Pep Guardiola has admitted defeat by Chelsea in the Champions League in 2012 helped convince him it was time to leave Barcelona.
The Bayern Munich coach's departure from the Nou Camp has long been linked to burnout after two intense seasons up against Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, but now the man who won 14 trophies with the Catalan giants has opened up on how Barca's European Cup nemesis also pushed him out the door.
'We were much better than they were over the two games but we let in an unnecessary goal in the first leg and before we knew it in the second leg we were out,' Guardiola recalls in an interview with Audi.

'I felt as if I could no longer lift the team.'
Guardiola announced his decision to leave Barcelona shortly after elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Chelsea in April 2012.
A late Ramires chip had put the eventual winners through on away goals, and with Mourinho's Real Madrid on course to win the league that left just the Spanish Cup for Barcelona in what was Guardiola's last season.
'We were incredibly successful - winning 14 trophies in only four years was the greatest period in the club's history.
'But gradually I found it more and more difficult to motivate myself and to motivate the team. That is when you know it is time to walk away,' said Guardiola.
The former Spain midfielder's departure from the Nou Camp has also been seen as a consequence of some of the players becoming bigger than their all-conquering manager.
Guardiola added: 'When you have a lot of stars in the team, as I have now at Bayern or as I had at Barcelona, you can end up in situations where too many options can also be a destructive factor.
'Everyone wanted to play but you can only put 11 on the pitch and every time I left (Leo) Messi out, for example, there was a big fuss made.'

Messi was a substitute in only 12 of the 136 games that Guardiola took charge of Barcelona in the league, and the suggestion that the relationship soured between the Argentine and the coach still clouds memories of Guardiola's final season in Spain.
Guardiola brilliantly stage-managed Messi's greatest seasons as the four-time Ballon d'Or winner fulfilled his potential in spectacular style.
The two could be reunited in Friday's quarter-final draw. Chelsea and Mourinho could also be lying in wait for the Bayern Munich boss.
