Real Madrid's three-point plan to lure world's best players to the Bernabeu - including Gareth Bale

The timeless art of seduction; or "how to sign the player you want in three easy steps". Having broken the world record four times Real Madrid remain kings of the big transfer despite not having won club football's biggest prize for over a decade now.

President Florentino Perez does not always get his man – he famously missed out on Patrick Vieira in 2004 – but when the signing does happen it follows a familiar pattern: Identify the player and let him know you want him; go public over the fact that he wants to come; and then convince him your bid will be accepted, encouraging him to agitate for a move, or even better, go on strike.
The pursuit of Bale has been textbook from Real Madrid. You can almost imagine in the makeshift nerve centre down in the bowels of the Bernabeu, Perez, sleeves rolled up above the elbows, pacing up and down in front of a whiteboard with the words "Operation Bale" written above a mugshot of the 24-year-old Welshman.
Identifying him as this summer's big signing will not have been solely a football decision. Real Madrid need a centre-forward far more than they need a goalscoring midfielder but, with Bale as the new face of BT Sport, promoting its coverage of the Premier League, Real Madrid will have spotted his growing commercial appeal.
Barcelona have just paid €57m (£49.5m) for Neymar and, as a direct result of the signing, signed a multi-million deal with Panasonic a few days later making them global partners until 2016. As Perez sees it, Bale's commercial value matches his football value. With the Madrid press briefed that Bale was the chosen one, the transfer stories were written and picked up in England, leaving the player in little doubt that he was wanted.
Marca TV tracked down his agent, Jonathan Barnett, and on the channel's prime-time show Futboleros he admitted that: "If somebody like Mr Perez was interested in Gareth Bale it would be a great honour and we would listen, but he's under contract at Tottenham."
Zinedine Zidane, now installed as new coach Carlo Ancelotti's No 2, but very much Real Madrid's unofficial director of football, went public about believing Bale was Europe's most exciting new talent. How could his head not be turned?
According to Marca, Barnett then met with Perez and Real's director general, Jose Angel Sanchez, who orchestrated David Beckham's move to Madrid in 2003. In this late June rendezvous, Barnett was made aware of Madrid's intention to pay Bale €10m a season in a six-year deal.
According to Marca's deputy editor, Carlos Carpio, and by way of completing the seduction, a Madrid No 11 shirt with Bale's name on it was even presented to Barnett – perfect for a player who has the number trademarked along with his heart-shaped goal celebration.
With step one complete, step two began: making it public that the player wanted to join. Transfer requests are ill-advised as they affect loyalty bonus payments but, amid claims Bale had told Spurs he wanted to leave, all the player had to do was not issue a denial and the desire to move was as good as understood.
The final stage comes with the assurance the club can now make the deal happen. Spurs deny having received an official bid but Bale and his agent are satisfied that Real have both the will and the means to meet Spurs' asking price. The player going on strike to force the price down and the deal through is now the perfect finale, although Real have always understood that Bale is not a player who will refuse to play, as Luka Modric did last year.
Madrid's tactic puts the selling club in a difficult position. Barcelona's pursuit of Cesc Fabregas followed a similar pattern two years ago and Arsenal, like Tottenham, were faced with being forced to sell or being left with an unhappy player likely to have a below-par season that further lowers his value.
This season Manchester United's open pursuit of Fabregas has surprised many in Spain. Two very public bids have been made and players past and present have talked up Fabregas, or the possibility of him signing. Real's Iker Casillas was doing much the same when asked about Bale.
But when Barcelona's vice-president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, was asked if they had been upset by United's pursuit he laughed off the suggestion, saying: "Why would we be? He's a very good player and it's normal a club like Manchester United would be interested."
The sentiment seemed to be: "We've been doing it for years, why has it taken English clubs so long to catch up?" It's all part of the game. And one which Real Madrid – even when they are told by an angry Sir Alex Ferguson: "I wouldn't sell that mob a virus" – usually end up winning.

Manchester United 'considering' third and final bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas

Manchester United could be about to launch a third bid for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, with reports suggesting they could offer around £35m to try and bring him to Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has been David Moyes’ prime transfer target after he missed out on Thiago Alcantara last month, but they have already had two bids knocked back by the La Liga champions.
Their opening offer of £26m hit the headlines before being rejected by Barcelona officials, with their second bid of £30m being immediately dismissed by new manager Gerardo Martino who insisted they would not sell Fabregas for any price.
"I'm not going to involve myself in the club's accounts, but considering the club has already rejected two offers, I would guess it will reject a third," Martino said last week.
"In other words, Fabregas will remain here."
However, Moyes could be about to break their club-record transfer fee – set in 2008 when Sir Alex Ferguson signed Dimitar Berbatov for £30.75m – as they search for a central midfielder to fill the hole left by the retired Paul Scholes.
Fabregas is believed to have told friends in England that he would be open to a move back to the Premier League, although he has at no point expressed a desire to leave the Nou Camp after the Catalan club fought to sign him from his former club Arsenal.
Arsenal do have a buy-back option for £25m but have chosen not to follow up that option at this time, with Arsene Wenger suggesting that he doesn’t think Fabregas will be leaving Barcelona this year, but a bid of £35m may be enough to at least force president Sandro Rosell to at least consider the offer.
Should United fail to make any headway with Fabregas, they could switch targets to try and sign Everton’s Marouane Fellaini or Real Madrid’s Luka Modric, with reports yesterday claiming that United are exploring the possibility of bringing the Croation back to the Premier League after just one season in Spain.

Luis Suarez 'understands' why Liverpool are refusing to sell to Arsenal, claims Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Luis Suarez “totally understands” why Liverpool are refusing to entertain any offers for the striker in the wake of Arsenal’s £40m plus £1 bid.

It was the second bid that the Gunners saw rejected by the Anfield hierarchy, though they are expected to maintain their interest in the Uruguayan who is keen on a move away from Liverpool.
Arsenal believed that the additional £1 would activate a release clause in his contract, but Liverpool have maintained that they merely had to inform the player of the offer, while still rejecting it.
It had been reported that Suarez would ask the Premier League to intervene and clarify the situation, although he is yet to take any action and Rodgers has claimed that he has not been affected by all the speculation.
"It's a story that can keep running but for me there is no new news," Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.
"Luis is happy. He totally understands the club's point of view.
"He's in a difficult position in terms of not being able to play because of his suspension - he will sit out the first six games and he will miss playing football.
"But he's working hard and remains part of the group. He hasn't been moping about.
"It's obviously difficult when you come back after a break but he has settled in and has been working well.
"He needs to get up to speed and we will continue to work to get all the players ready for the first game of the season."
Suarez claimed he wanted to leave England due to the way he had been treated by the British media, though Arsenal felt they could lure him to the Emirates with the promise of Champions League football, which seems to have attracted Suarez’s interest.
However, the former Ajax forward has stopped short of handing in an official transfer request or seeking legal recourse, and Liverpool feel that he owes the club a degree of loyalty after they stood by him during the with racism row with Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and biting incident with Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.
Suarez is currently in the middle of a 10-match ban for his part in the latter, and along with being on Confederations Cup duty with his country, Rodgers feels he has had a less than ideal pre-season so far.
Rodgers doesn’t feel that is has had a destabilising effect on the rest of the squad though, and insists their professionalism will be enough to keep spirits up regardless of Suarez’s future.
"It could have unsettled them but it hasn't," he added.
"It says a lot about their professionalism: the environment that we're creating is that the star will always be the team.
"We want to have top players here but if for whatever reason we don't, we will always know we can rely on the team and each other.
"The harmony in the group is very good. The spirit is strong. Right across the club there is a one club mentality.
"If we can keep it that way we can have a great season."

Justin Bieber revenge: Blackhawks fans step on singer’s face at convention

Earlier this month, Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber angered many hockey fans for (a) yet again touching the Stanley Cup without ever having won it and, even worse, (b) standing on the Chicago Blackhawks logo in their dressing room while taking a photo of the Cup in the bowels of the United Center.
The latter offense was seen as a major show of disrespect. NHL teams are careful not to allow anyone to step on the team logo on the dressing room floor … despite it, you know, being on the floor. The Blackhawks rope theirs off from the media during playoff interviews. The Boston Bruins actually position a team employee to chase away people who step too close to their logo.
The Blackhawks themselves expressed outrage that Bieber used their logo as a welcome mat, with forward Andrew Shaw tweeting, “Bro, no stepping on the logo.”
The fans were also outraged. And on July 27, at the Blackhawks’ annual fan convention, a few finally took action against the Biebs – by stepping all over his legacy.
And by “legacy” we of course mean “face.”

@StandOnBieber That sound you heard was legions of pre-teen girls gasping and growling simultaneously.
Chris Wilkerson (black shirt), Mark Wegener (white shirt), and Josh Kaye (red shirt) – residents of Des Plaines, IL – came to the Hilton Chicago with a cut-out of Justin Bieber’s face. The fans chronicled their adventures on the Stand On Bieber Twitter feed (@StandOnBieber) and have promised more photos of – you guessed it – them standing on Justin Bieber’s head.
“We don't appreciate bandwagoners,” the trio said in an e-mail. “When we saw Justin Bieber not only stand on the logo, but touch the cup as well, we were astonished.”
@StandOnBieber
The plotted their revenge … but were denied at first.
“While we were at the convention, however, we were denied the opportunity. Security immediately said ‘no’ as soon as we unrolled the Biebs. Discouraged for only a second, we gave our nods to the coveted trophy and walked away,” they wrote in an e-mail. “Then, a second burst! If we can't take it in front of the cup, we will take it EVERYWHERE else!”
So they did, and others got in on the act … including Tommy Hawk, the Blackhawks’ mascot!
@StandOnBieber
At the end of the day, they had snapped over 100 photos of the Bieber head being used as a foot rest and in various other stages of humiliation – like under a Zamboni.
“To be quite honest, it started as a joke of revenge, but it's transpired into what we feel is Blackhawk pride, and more so Chicago pride,” they wrote. “It's all in good fun; we're not hate mongers.”
While he apologized to former President Bill Clinton for spraying his photograph with cleaning solution after Bieber urinated in a mop bucket at a club (don’t ask), Bieber didn’t publicly apologize for the logo-stepping snafu.
The Blackhawks PR staff, however, told TMZ that Bieber apologized to them in the dressing room after breaking hockey etiquette.
Clearly Blackhawks fans weren't going to stand for that. Wait, sorry, actually that's exactly what they did -- on his face.

Fugitive Snowden's hopes of leaving Moscow airport dashed

Fugitive U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden's hopes of leaving Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport for the first time in a month on Wednesday were dashed when he failed to secure permission from Russia to leave.
An airport source said Snowden, who is wanted by the United States on espionage charges for revealing details of government intelligence programmes, was handed documents by his lawyer that were expected to include a pass to leave the transit area.

But Snowden did not go through passport control, and lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who is helping him with his request for temporary asylum in Russia until he can reach a country that will shelter him, said the American did not have the pass he needed.
It was not clear whether there had been last-minute political intervention or a hitch, or whether the pass had never been in his possession.
Kucherena said he hoped Snowden's status would be resolved soon. "I must say he is of course anxious about it and I hope that this situation will be resolved in the nearest future," Kucherena said at Sheremetyevo.
"This is the first time Russia is facing such a situation, and this issue of course requires time for the immigration workers."
In Washington, the White House said it was seeking clarification of Snowden's status, the State Department made clear that allowing him to leave the airport would be "deeply disappointing" and Secretary of State John Kerry telephoned Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the situation.
"The secretary spoke with Foreign Minister Lavrov this morning," said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki. "He reiterated our belief ... that Mr. Snowden needs to be returned to the United States where he will have a fair trial."
Bolivia, Nicaragua and Venezuela have said they could offer sanctuary to Snowden, who arrived on June 23 from Hong Kong, where he had fled to escape capture and trial in the United States on espionage charges.
None of the three Latin American countries can be reached by a direct commercial flight from Moscow, so Snowden has requested temporary asylum in Russia until he believes he can safely reach one of them.
The United States wants him extradited to face prosecution and has revoked his passport.
Russia has refused to send him home and risks damage to its relations with the United States if it grants him temporary asylum - a process that could take three months.
Kucherena confirmed Snowden was staying somewhere in the many corridors and rooms of the transit area between the runway and passport control - an area Russia considers neutral territory - and that he had learned the Russian for "Hi", "Bye-bye" and "I'll ring you."
The 30-year-old had received calls from across Russia, with offers to give him money and a place to stay, and even a suggestion by one woman to adopt him. He said he had enough money to get by for now.
Kucherena said he had brought him fresh underwear and shirts and added that he had given him the novel "Crime and Punishment" by 19th-century writer Fyodor Dostoevsky and short stories by Anton Chekhov.
President Vladimir Putin signalled last week that he did not want the dispute to derail Russia's relations with the United States, and the decision on temporary asylum could be delayed until after U.S. President Barack Obama visits Moscow for a summit in early September.
It will be Putin's first summit with Obama since the former KGB spy started a new term last year, and precedes a subsequent G20 summit in St. Petersburg.
DIPLOMATIC FALLOUT FROM LEAKS
Both Russia and the United States have signalled they want to improve ties, strained by issues ranging from the Syrian conflict to Putin's treatment of opponents and Western-funded non-governmental organisations since he started a third term in 2012.
Putin has said Snowden must stop anti-U.S. activities. Snowden has said he does not regard his activities as hostile to the United States, but Kucherena said last week that he had agreed to halt such actions.
Snowden, who has been assisted by the WikiLeaks anti-secrecy group, has not been seen in public since June 23, although he had a meeting at the airport with human rights groups on July 13.
He fears the United States will persuade its allies to prevent him using their airspace, or that his plane might be forced down so that he can be taken into custody and extradited.
Kucherena said earlier this week that he did not rule out Snowden seeking Russian citizenship.
There has already been diplomatic fallout from Snowden's leaks, which included information that the U.S. National Security Agency bugged European Union offices and gained access to EU internal computer networks, although the EU is an ally.
China, Brazil and France have also voiced concern over the spying programme.
U.S. relations with Latin American states have been clouded by the refusal of four U.S. allies in Europe to let a plane carrying Bolivia's president home from Moscow use their airspace because of suspicion that Snowden might be on the plane.
U.S. lawmakers were also clashing over the case as the House of Representatives debated the 2014 defence spending bill.
The House on Wednesday rejected a proposed amendment from Michigan Republican Justin Amash that would bar the NSA from collecting telephone call records and other data from people in the United States not specifically under investigation.
Obama opposed Amash's amendment, saying it would "hastily dismantle one of our intelligence community's counterterrorism tools."

Why was doomed Spanish train going so fast?

Why was the train going so fast? Did the driver fail to heed speed limits on a sharp curve? Did brakes fail? What about the safety system meant to force the train or the driver to slow down if going too fast?
These are among issues investigators will look into after Spain's worst train crash in decades, which left at least 80 dead and 94 injured, 35 of them in serious condition.

A day after the crash, the driver of the train which derailed on the outskirts of the northern Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela was under police watch in hospital but had not been arrested.
A judge in the Galicia region ordered police to question the driver, Francisco Jose Garzon, as a suspect and also ordered them to seize the black box of the train.
The 52-year-old driver was a 30-year veteran, said Renfe, the state train company. It has been widely reported that he took a sharp curve with an 80-kmph speed limit at more than twice that speed.
Many newspapers published excerpts from his Facebook account where he boasted of driving trains at high speed. The account was closed early on Thursday.
The driver was not available for comment and Reuters was not able to locate his family or determine whether he has a lawyer.
Representatives of railway unions said it was too early to tell whether the driver was to blame.
"Human error is always a possibility, and in defence of human error what do we have, we have technology, that is what it is for ... but it is very difficult to know what might have happened without, for example, hearing what the driver was saying at the time," said Miguel Angel Cillero, responsible for transport at union UGT.
While police and the judge were looking into potential negligence on the part of the driver, the Public Works Ministry launched a more technical investigation. Renfe and Adif, the state track operator, began their own probes.
Security video footage showed the train, with 247 people on board, hurtling into a concrete wall at the side of the track as carriages jack-knifed and the engine overturned.
The impact was so strong that one carriage of the train flew over a wall and landed on an embankment several metres above.
TWO SAFETY SYSTEMS
The train involved, made by Bombardier and Talgo, was a series 730 that Renfe uses for its Alvia service, which is faster than conventional trains but not as fast as the AVE trains that criss-cross Spain at even higher speeds.
The train was built in 2007-2009, but remodelled in 2012 to use diesel.
The train is designed to operate on conventional and high-speed tracks that make use of two different types of safety systems that are meant to regulate excessive speed.
On high-speed lines, trains use the European Train Control System, or ETCS, system, which automatically slows down a train that is going too fast.
On slower lines, trains operate under an older system called ASFA, a Spanish acronym for Signal Announcement and Automatic Braking, which warns the driver if a train is moving too fast but does not automatically slow it down.
At the site of the disaster, just 3 km before reaching the Santiago de Compostela station, the train was passing through an urban area on a steep curve. At that point of the track, two railway experts said, it uses the older ASFA safety system.
Professor Roger Kemp, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in Britain, said in an e-mailed comment: "As the driver was leaving the high-speed line to join a much slower route before entering the station, there must have been at least prominent visual warnings to reduce speed, if not audible warnings and an electronic speed supervision system."
Local media reported that railway union representatives had questioned whether a high-speed train should have been adapted to run on a track with curves that had been designed for lower-speed trains.
A source close to ADIF said the safety system was apparently working correctly and a train had passed an hour earlier with no problems.
The train, packed with families visiting relatives and revellers on their way to a major religious festival, was not running late.
It began its seven hour journey to the northern region of Galicia right on time: at 15.00 CET on the dot. It crashed at 20.41, two minutes before it was due to arrive.

iPhone 6 could feature Liquidmetal exterior Very metal.

Changes could be afoot when it comes to the iPhone’s build quality, it has emerged, amid signs that Apple could ditch the glass and aluminium construction of the current-gen model for Liquid metal.
Rumors that Liquid metal would figure in a future iPhone have been circulating since April last year. The alloy is favoured by Apple because it is less scratch-prone than glass but still offers the same silky smooth surfaces.
iPhone 5 liquidmetal render front

However, speculation that a LiquidMetal iPhone is an idea whose time may have come got fresh legs today after a site discovered a patent awarded to Crucible Intellectual Property. This is the inauspicious-sounding company at the heart of Apple’s licensing deal with LiquidMetal Technologies.
The patent details a fresh approach to production, which has until now been restricted to SIM ejector tools. This is due to unspecified manufacturing challenges, of the sort that LiquidMetal inventor Dr Atakan Peker outlined last year.
How viable the new method is for mass production of devices isn’t clear. But while it’s unlikely that the next iPhone will debut the technology, there’s a very good chance that Apple will feature LiquidMetal for iPhones some time in the future.
Under the terms of its agreement with LiquidMetal Technologies, which was signed in 2010, Apple has exclusive rights to use the technology.

Substitute Neymar denied victory on Barcelona debut

Barcelona's new signing Neymar was denied a win on his debut when the Brazil forward came on as a second-half substitute in a 2-2 draw in a friendly at Polish side Lechia Gdansk on Tuesday.
The standout performer in his nation's triumph at last month's Confederations Cup, Neymar joined up with his new team mates on Monday and made the trip to Poland to feature in a Barca squad for the first time since joining from Santos.
He replaced Chile forward Alexis Sanchez in the 78th minute, just after World Player of the Year Lionel Messi had been substituted, and was welcomed with a series of robust challenges from the home players.

New coach Gerardo Martino did not make the trip to Poland and will make his debut on the bench when Barca host Neymar's former club in a friendly at the Nou Camp on Friday.
A minute's silence was held before the match in Gdansk after Barca announced earlier on Tuesday that their former goalkeeper Antoni Ramallets had died at the age of 89.
Ramallets made 473 appearances for the Catalan club between 1946 and 1961 and won six La Liga titles and five Spanish Cups.
He was awarded the Zamora trophy for the top goalkeeper in La Liga five times and was part of the Spain squad that finished fourth at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil.

Messi is my idol, says Barcelona debutant Neymar

Messi is my idol, says Barcelona debutant Neymar
The 21-year-old is delighted to have finally made his bow in Blaugrana colours following his €57 million (£49.6m) move and says that he looks up to his Argentine team-mate
Neymar says that idolises team-mate Lionel Messi, describing his debut for Barcelona as a "dream come true".

The Brazil international was handed his highly anticipated first outing for the Blaugrana with a 15-minute cameo in the 2-2 draw with Lechia Gdansk on Tuesday, replacing Alexis Sanchez in the 78th minute.

And, speaking to reporters after the game, the Selecao starlet admitted that the transition from dream to reality had begun after making his bow.

"What was my debut like? My dream is turning into a reality and I'm very happy," he enthused.

Much has been made over how the €57 million (£49.6m) youngster's arrival will impact on Messi - who netted his team's second equaliser in the game - but the former Santos forward says that he is just happy to share the same dressing room as his "idol".

"Messi is an idol of mine and I am very happy to be with him and playing alongisde him," the Brazilian remarked. "He is a great player and a great person."

The 21-year-old is due to face his former club Santos on August 2 in the Joan Gamper Trophy and, while admitting that it will be an odd experience to come up against his old team-mates so soon after leaving, Neymar insists that he will not be holding back on his return.

"It will be a little strange to play against Santos but now I am with Barcelona and I'll give everything for the shirt," he added.

Neymar is expected to make his competitive debut when Barcelona take on Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super-Cup on August 21.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Shares His Personal Finance Regrets

Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has a fascinating piece at Esquire.com this week in which he shares some of the advice he wishes he could give to his 30-year-old self. There are a lot of great nuggets of wisdom from the NBA's all-time leading scorer, including an admonition to learn French and to cook more often. What caught our eye, though, were his suggestions that he wished he'd become financially literate at a younger age.

"I chose my financial manager, who I later discovered had no financial training, because a number of other athletes I knew were using him," he recounts. "Consequently, I neglected to investigate his background or what qualified him to be a financial manager. He placed us in some real estate investments that went belly up and I came close to losing some serious coin."
As Abdul-Jabbar acknowledges, his experience is not unusual among athletes. Countless professional athletes have gone bankrupt after making tens of millions of dollars over the course of their careers; baseball star Lenny Dykstra and NFL quarterback Mark Brunell, for instance, were done in by unwise investments.

One Direction Get Goofy Behind the Scenes of Their Teen Vogue Cover Shoot [Pictures]

One Direction are the cover boys for the September 2013 Teen Vogue, and despite displaying their adorable fashion sense, they also showed their goofy sides in these behind-the-scenes photos. Some quotes also emerged from the interview, and as you’d expect, the boys are still lovably low maintenance.
For one, don’t expect to see Taylor Swift in their 3D movie, ’1D: This Is Us,’ but not because Harry Styles ordered her banned from the footage.
“It gets frustrating for them at times, because suddenly stuff gets printed that isn’t even true,” director Morgan Spurlock explained. “I saw an article that said, ‘Harry Styles demands Taylor Swift be taken out of the movie.’ But by the time we started filming in January, they had already split up.”
As for their Directioners, the boys still aren’t quite accustomed to the fandom. “I don’t see how you could get used to people screaming in your face, and anyone who says different is lying,” Niall Horan said.
As for their downtime, Zayn Malik, called “the most soft spoken of the bunch,” likes to relax in serene areas — as in, not the hotel pools in Miami where the boys were staying. “It was a bit too busy for me,” Malik explained. “I like to chill somewhere quiet. I get pleasure from the little things in life.” Aw!
The boys really don’t ask for much … or anything at all. Liam Payne admitted, “We haven’t actually got a rider. We never actually sat there and made one. They bring us the stuff they think we like. We’re not really that diva.”
We knew we loved them!

Lea Michele Is Suffering From Anxiety Attacks Following Cory Monteith’s Death

Lea Michele can’t catch a break. She reportedly lost her mind after learning of the sudden and tragic death of her boyfriend, fellow ‘Glee‘ star Cory Monteith — and now she’s suffering from terrible anxiety attacks.
Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13. Some say that things get easier with time, but unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be the case for 26-year-old Michele in the wake of this unexpected tragedy.
“Lea is getting worse — the shock is wearing off now and the reality is setting in,” a source told Hollywood Life. “She’s been having horrible anxiety attacks where she feels like she can’t breathe.”
However, despite these debilitating spells, she allegedly wants to get back to work on the ‘Glee’ set.
“Lea pushes herself so hard and expects so much from herself,” said the source. “And she doesn’t want to let down anyone at ‘Glee’ because she knows everyone is counting on her to come back.”
“It’s hard to imagine how she’s going to physically get through her work days,” the source added. “She can barely stop crying and it’s only getting worse.”
Poor Lea. We wish nothing but the best for her and the rest of the ‘Glee’ family during this difficult time.

Michael Jackson Billion Dollar Man

Michael Jackson could have raked in as much as $1.5 billion had he lived ... at least that's what an entertainment money man told jurors today in MJ's wrongful death case.

Accounting guru Arthur Erk testified ... Jackson could have earned minimum $1.1 billion if he performed a worldwide concert and showcased his music in Las Vegas.  And Erk felt if ticket prices were high enough, the figure would soar to $1.5 bil by the time Michael turned 65.

There are a couple of problems.  First, MJ never planned a worldwide tour.  The "This Is It" tour was limited to London.  Second, the family is seeking more than $40 billion.

Another interesting thing ... Erk said he deducted what he felt Jackson would have spent between age 50 and age 65, when he hypothetically would have retired -- $134 million.

Oh the struggles of living on a budget.

Lea Michele ‘Lost Her Mind’ When She Found Out About Cory Monteith’s Death

Cory Monteith Lea Michele
When Lea Michele was notified of her boyfriend and co-star Cory Monteith‘s death last weekend, she reportedly lost her mind. But then again, in such situations, who wouldn’t react that way?
Us Weekly reports that Michele got the call that her boyfriend had died around 10PM L.A. time. The person who alerted her had embarked on a mad dash to get in touch with the actress before the news hit the media. Monteith’s body was found in a hotel in Vancouver at around noon local time. He died of a drug and alcohol overdose.
“Lea completely lost her mind,” a source said. “She went crazy, screaming and crying until 3 AM.” Well, that’s a normal reaction when the person you love dies unexpectedly and at the tender age of 31.
Michele, who has remained quiet save for a brief statement issued via her rep, thanking fans for their support, “has been inconsolable and feels like she’s been hit by a truck,” the insider said. “She didn’t know he’d started using again.”
Because of this shock to her system, the friend said, “She’s not doing great. She’s totally devastated.”
Additionally, TMZ reports Michele has been the one planning a Monteith memorial, wresting control away from his mother, who arranged a cremation without inviting the late actor’s father.
Michele was also said to be fiercely protective of her boyfriend, who was out of his league in a “zoo of piranhas” in Hollywood. She was also rumored to be the one who engineered his rehab stint, as well,

Taylor Swift Admits 'Trouble' Is About Harry Styles & Harry Styles Wishes He Never Walked In

Not that you didn't know this already, but Taylor Swift has admitted that her hit song "I Knew You Were Trouble" was written about ex-boyfriend Harry Styles. Swift explained that she channeled her anger toward the One Direction member while performing the song at the BRIT Awards last month, telling The Times of London magazine: "It's not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is about is standing by the side of the stage watching." She also added about the performance: "You're balancing the analytical side of your brain, which is telling you where to go and how to go there, with the other side of your brain, which is saying, 'Feel everything you're singing, and show it on your face.'"
That's cool. I'm not gonna hate if writing and performing music is TSwift's form of catharsis. But one eensy thing: Taylor reportedly went after Harry after meeting him at the Kids' Choice Awards. So maybe she was trouble when she walked in?
Following her summertime split with Conor Kennedy, Taylor supposedly developed a serious crush on Styles when she met him at the awards ceremony the following March. One can surmise (if they like surmising mundane things of this low-brow nature) that since she's the one who developed a crush first, she's the one who initiated the relationship in some way, shape, or form. So yeah, Harry isn't the only troublemaker.
If Taylor Swift wants to pen songs about her failed relationships, whatever -- you write what you know. But she shouldn't expect these breakups to be pleasant and/or adult-like if this is the route she chooses. I mean, would you like someone directly and indirectly publicly mocking you constantly after you called it quits? Obvs, no. And neither does Harry.
Styles is supposedly sorry he ever got involved with Taylor in the first place, because dude had no idea what a dragged out mess their breakup would be. A source recently said: "Harry just doesn't know what to expect. It wasn't the most amicable of splits. [He wants to] get on with his life. Perhaps something that Taylor should consider too."
Meow. But ... kind of true? Move on already, Taylor.
Do you think Taylor should move on with her life?

Throwback Thursday: See Kim & Kourtney Kardashian as Little Girls!

0509_tbt_launch
Before the world was experiencing Kardashian overload ... Kim and Kourtney Kardashian were just two cute (normal?) kids from the Valley!

On Thursday, Kim tweeted the adorable vintage snap of her and Kourt sporting matching "K" sweatshirts with the caption, "#tbt KK @kourtneykardash."

It's hard to believe that the Kardashian sisters were once so innocent -- before the infamous sex tape, wild partying and endless bikini shots.

Khloe Kardashian is noticeably missing form the cute candid. Maybe Khlo's the one who snapped the pic for them?

It also looks like the 32-year-old's always been a fan of "going glam" --  Kim's even wearing makeup in the childhood pic.

Justin Bieber Spitting Again Caught in the Act

0725_justib_bieber_spitting_fans_photos_launch_v2
Here it is ... hard proof Justin Bieber is a revolting, germ-spreading spitter.

The photos were snapped Thursday in Toronto, where Bieber was perched atop his hotel balcony. We can't tell what, or who, was directly under him as he dropped his saliva-bomb.

It is worth noting ... hordes of fans were gathered outside the window of his hotel room all day -- he even posted a Bieberview pic on Instagram.

Also relevant ... multiple people have accused Bieber of using spit as a weapon -- including some woman at a gym, his neighbor, and most recently ... a nightclub DJ.

At least he's not pissing into a mop bucket ... far as we know.

Myla Sinanaj I Watched Kim K's Sex Tape ... While Making My Own

 0726-myla-synanaj-kim-kardashian
Okay this is creepy ... not only does Myla Sinanaj want to be just like Kim Kardashian ... she had Kim K's sex tape playing during her own XXX romp.

Myla has gone all single white female and filmed her own version of a Kim K sex tape -- called the "Anti-Kim Kardashian XXX" -- hoping its release will make her millions and land her a reality show.

TMZ obtained a clip of the tape  ... it shows how obsessed she is -- you see Myla watching the KK / Ray J video in the background as a Kris Humphries look-a-like bangs her to a fare-thee-well.

Myla does say, "Turn that off ... I can do better than that." But still ...

The one thing that does set Myla apart from KK -- she loses her "backdoor virginity." It's a place Kim never went ... at least on camera.

It's beyond.

Katherine Jackson Hurts to Hear MJ Called 'Freak'

Katherine Jackson testified in her wrongful death lawsuit against AEG Live ... it's devastating to hear witnesses and lawyers refer to her dead son as "lazy" and a "freak."

She said, "It's hard to sit here in court and listen to all these things ... My son was sick and nobody was trying to help him."

When she met Dr. Conrad Murray -- the man who killed MJ with a fatal dose of Propofol -- she said she immediately thought the doc WASN'T the right person to care for her son.

She said, "My son needed another doctor."

Katherine is trying to prove AEG was negligent in hiring and supervising Dr. Murray, and is therefore responsible for the singer's death.

Dr. Murray to Jackson Family Mark My Words, I'll Destroy You 'Consider This an Imminent Nuclear Warning'

You want the truth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

At least that's what Dr. Conrad Murray is saying to AEG and the Jackson family, claiming he's prepared to drop a nuclear bomb on the entire wrongful death lawsuit if he's forced to testify ... a bomb that neither side can begin to fathom ... and that will blow both sides out of the water.

It's the second time Murray's threatened AEG and the Jackson family with destructive testimony, suggesting he's been keeping a bombshell secret for years regarding Michael and the singer's true relationship with his family -- but the latest threat is borderline scary.

Murray made the threat in a recent voicemail message to a friend, pleading with AEG and the Jacksons for one last time to leave him in peace and spare him from testifying.

He says, "Please stop. If you don’t, let this serve as my final warning to both sides. Don’t incite me to testify. Consider this as an imminent nuclear warning. Enough is enough." He then hints at the nature of his "nuclear" secret.Murray was subpoenaed to testify in Katherine's $40 billion lawsuit against AEG -- but he pled the 5th because he doesn't want to incriminate himself in any upcoming legal proceedings ... after he appealed to overturn his manslaughter conviction.

And it sounds like he has other reasons for not wanting to testify as well.

Debbie Rowe To Testify About MJ's Shocking Drug Use

Debbie Rowe will testify in the Michael Jackson wrongful death case that MJ was a SECRET, hardcore drug addict for decades -- testimony that could severely damage the Jackson's case.

Sources connected with the trial tell TMZ ... Rowe will be called by AEG Live Tuesday or Wednesday ... and she'll testify that in the '80s and '90s ... she knew Michael was abusing some prescription meds, but had no idea his habit was so out of control.

We're told Rowe will point the finger at her former boss, MJ's go-to doc, Arnie Klein.  Rowe will testify she learned after the fact that Klein had a standing order ... when Michael came to the office he should be injected with Demerol and Vistaril (which makes the Demerol stronger).

Rowe will say Michael kept the extent of his drug abuse a secret from her -- something that will clearly help AEG, because the company is arguing it had no reason to know Michael was a drug abuser.

Rowe will say she saw Michael on TMZ coming out of Klein's office days before he died -- looking totally out of it.  We're told she will say she called Klein after Michael died and said, "What the f**k did you give him?  He's dead and it's your fault."  She then hung up on him.

Rowe's testimony will further help AEG because she'll say she had no idea Michael was secretly going to surgical offices specifically for the purpose of getting high and going to sleep.

She'll also say she's the only person in Michael's world who could control him -- that she's the only one (including Michael's family) who would say "NO."

The testimony could be critical.  If the jury believes Michael could hide his hardcore drug use, AEG would have no reason to sound an alarm or take preventative action.

Royal baby 'distantly related to Dracula'

Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge’s new born baby is distantly related to Count Dracula, , the 15th century prince who was the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s famous vampire, according to genealogists.
Experts also traced the family tree back to an Islamic sultan, who is believed to have descended from the Prophet Mohammed, Essentialbaby.com.au reported.
Kate gave birth to the baby at 4:24 pm on Monday at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.
Prince William was alongside her during the delivery.

13-year-old boy in US killed mom who took away video game

13-year-old boy in US killed mom who took away video game
New York, May 9: In what has seriously got to be one of the most disturbing stories ever, jurors in the murder trial of a 13-year-old boy accused of killing his mother heard the 911 call in which the teen confesses to shooting his mother 21 times with a rifle -- but not before trying to rape her.
The Iowa teenager, Noah Crooks, calls 911 after the murder and rambles on for 10 minutes.

Crooks, now 14 , has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse on March 24, 2012.

The victim was his 37-year-old mother, Gretchen Crooks, who had taken away his “Call of Duty” video game because he got bad grades in school, it was said.

The court heard Crooks admit that it was because of the game being taken away that he snapped. In the 911 recording made on the night of the murder at the family's home in Osage, Iowa, Crooks can be heard telling the operator: “I’m not joking at all. She’s dead. I’m scared. I killed my mom with my .22. I don’t know why I did it.”

Police responding to the call found the woman shot multiple times, according to Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.

During the conversation, which lasted about 10 minutes, the boy repeated his confession several times The Global Gazette reported.

Noah rambled on about his mother making him homemade doughnuts earlier that night and expressed disbelief that he killed her after she did that for him.

He then revealed that his mother had taken away his Call of Duty video game because he got bad grades in school, and that is when he snapped.

Gretchen’s bullet-riddled body was found stretched out on a coach.

Her pyjama top was undone and she was naked from the waist down, Halbach said in court.

Vampire burial ground found in Poland

Archaeologists believe they have found a vampire grave on a construction site in the south of Poland. Skeletons were found with their heads removed and placed on their legs, indicating they had been subjected to an execution ritual designed to ensure the dead stayed dead.
An individual accused of being a vampire in Europe's distant past faced a grim fate. Sometimes they would be decapitated, otherwise they might be hanged from a gibbet until decomposition resulted in the head separating from the body. In both cases the head was then laid on the legs of the victim in the hope that an inability to locate their head would hinder those intent on rising from the grave.
Historians say that the practice was common in the Slavic lands during the decades following the adoption of Christianity by pagan tribes. The remains were found on the construction site of a ring road near the town of Gliwice, and came as a surprise to archaeologists more accustomed to finding the human detritus of the bloody fighting of the Second World War.
When the bodies were buried is open to speculation. Jacek Pierzak, one of the archaeologists on the site, said the skeletons were found with no jewellery, belt buckles, buttons or anything that could aid the task of determining their age. Unlike the classic Bram Stoker image of a caped, bloodsucking aristocrat, the definition of a vampire in the Middle Ages was far broader.
Even people who abided by old pagan customs and left food on the graves of dead relations could fall foul of accusations of vampirism, and suffer a prompt execution.

Why was Osama killing report not made public, asks daily

The daily said a report on the events leading up to the secession of East Pakistan was suppressed by the Pakistan government "for decades", but "today there is no such luxury" in the era of WikiLeaks and whistleblowers.
Al Jazeera's release of the Abbottabad Commission report on the killing of Osama bin Laden is a "hugely damaging and embarrassing episode" in Pakistan's history. But why was the report, handed over to the prime minister in January, not made public, a leading daily has asked.
"It was, perhaps, inevitable: a high-profile report on a hugely damaging and embarrassing episode in the country's history was unlikely to remain shrouded in secrecy forever," the Dawn said in an editorial Tuesday.
The daily said a report on the events leading up to the secession of East Pakistan was suppressed by the Pakistan government "for decades", but "today there is no such luxury" in the era of WikiLeaks and whistleblowers.
"The age of excessive secrecy and the suppression of information that is of legitimate public interest has passed," it said.
After an Indian publication began publishing extracts from the report, Pakistan was "forced to do what they long avoided", publish the report, the daily said.
But, "why was the Abbottabad Commission report, handed over to (then) prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in January, not made public?" the daily asked.
The Dawn assumed that the "responsibility for the secrecy lay with the military".
It said Pakistan "focuses more on the embarrassment that will be caused nationally and internationally" by a comprehensive official account, and often "ends up compounding the original errors".
The daily said the approach is "always the same" whether it was "Kargil" or militant attacks on military bases -- "spill no secrets and promise that the necessary corrective measures have been taken, with no proof of whether that is the case or not".
The government's "version of 'trust us, guys' has only led to bigger mistakes".
"The fact that Osama bin Laden spent years in Pakistan undetected and that US troops were able to kill him on Pakistani soil and leave undetected is surely one of the more staggering national security lapses in the country's history," the daily said.
It said that now because the report was out and will be pored over nationally and internationally, there is still time for the government, and the army in particular, "to get at least one thing right" -- the government must officially release the report.

Rafael Nadal: Shirtless Yacht Ride with Pals!

Rafael Nadal shows off his shirtless physique as he and a group of pals hang out on a yacht on Wednesday (July 24) in Majorca, Spain.
The 27-year-old tennis pro spent time on the boat diving into the water, joking around with pals, and showering off with a shower head.
That same day, Rafael tweeted about the devastating train crash that occurred that same day, which killed at least 78 people.
“I’m very affected because of the train accident in Santiago. All my support to the victims,” Rafael wrote on his Twitter. Our thoughts go out to the victims of this horrible accident.

It's no longer the 'Big 3 1/2: Andy Murray is here to stay

Two bowls of cereal and a few bagels with peanut butter for breakfast; pasta, chicken, fruit and fat-free yoghurt for lunch; 50 pieces of sushi for dinner; cereal bars and vanilla-flavoured protein shakes all through the day, and about six litres of water to wash all this down. That’s Andy Murray’s diet regimen for you.
This 6,000-calorie feast, mother Judy’s undying attention, Ivan Lendl’s towering presence and girlfriend Kim Sears’s emotional support helped Murray become the first British man to win Wimbledon in over seven decades.

Curiously enough, Murray hired the services of the stony eight-time major winner when he was ranked No. 2 in the world. But truth is he didn’t quite fit into the so-called ‘Big Four’. It was more like the ‘Big 3½’. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had a bagful of Grand Slam trophies and Novak Djokovic had gotten off the blocks. Conversely, Murray had only three final appearances to show. And mind you, he hadn’t won a set in any of these title matches.

Lendl brought to the table something simple but significant — frankness. He told Murray to the face that he wasn’t good enough to win at the top. But he also showed him how he could get there.

One thing led to another and Murray won the US Open last year to break his Grand Slam duck. Another thrashing in the Australian Open, at the hands of Djokovic, followed but Murray seemed to have emerged stronger. An injury forced him to miss the French Open and it was clearly a blessing in disguise.

Murray returned fresher and healthier for his home Grand Slam, hell-bent on making up for his tearful defeat to Federer in 2012. And boy, didn’t he?

Rafael Nadal starts training to bounce back from Wimbledon loss

Nadal had suffered his worst loss in his Grand Slam career when he lost in a straight-sets defeat to Belgian Steve Darcis in the first round at Wimbledon.
Rafael Nadal.

French Open Champion Rafael Nadal has resumed training, and is looking to bounce back from his shock first-round exit at Wimbledon, as he starts his hard court season in Montreal on August 5.
According to sport24, Nadal's uncle and coach Toni clarified that the player is currently at home in Mallorca and has plans to participate in tournaments in Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open.
Nadal had suffered his worst loss in his Grand Slam career when he lost in a straight-sets defeat to Belgian Steve Darcis in the first round at Wimbledon.
However, coach Toni Nadal said that the Spaniard had no fear of the hard court surface and he had nothing more to lose, adding that he is doing physical training, but no racquet workouts.
Before Wimbledon, Nadal had reached the final of all nine tournaments he had entered since his return from a seven-month injury lay-off, winning seven of them, the report added.

Tennis What Are the Chances Rafael Nadal Will Bounce Back at the 2013 US Open?

Rafael Nadal’s first-round loss at Wimbledon wasn’t overly surprising, but it quashed much of the tournament's anticipation. Before tennis fans could even settle in, Nadal was already packing his bags, waving at the crowd and telling the media that it was not a tragedy. It’s like finding out your tickets to the opera are really for a B movie.
We’ve seen this before from Nadal, but we never see it coming. We think we know him, but we don’t. There are discernible themes to his career, but his timing can be unpredictable.
In about a two-week span, he reached another pinnacle with an eighth French Open title, persevering through the hot Paris sun and a supreme semifinal test of Survivor, only to show up at the fresh, green lawns at Wimbledon and take a beating from an older journeyman.
What next?  Is he hurt? Will he show up to play the North American hard-court tour? Will he hide out in a dark cave for more Jedi meditation and emerge with a reinvented backhand and serve? Can he recapture his championship glory in the face of another setback?

The Phoenix
For all of Nadal’s astonishing talent, Grand Slam success and clay-court wizardry, he is always in the process of another comeback. The past four years has been a cycle similar to the mythical phoenix:
  1. He rides a hot streak to epic success.
  2. A single match produces an inexplicable crash and burn.
  3. Media grasps for information about Nadal's injuries and other theories.
  4. After a lengthy absence, he recommences the cycle.
Right now, Nadal is in stage three, and we wonder about the length or brevity to stage four. This is both the appeal and frustration for tennis fans who follow Nadal.
Love him or hate him, everyone takes a side. If he’s not polarizing, he is a paradox. He may fly back to his sanctuary in Mallorca to escape media and fame, but still become the biggest headline in tennis.
He is a contradiction. He may shun attention and insist that he does not want to talk about his injured knee, but there it is, heavily wrapped and the prime subject in the match against Steve Darcis.
There is no blame for this either, even if it's the elephant in the room. Nobody really has any idea to what extent the knee was injured, yet it's part of his career baggage.
He will not be ignored. Modest and humble in interviews, he nevertheless creates much of his image with Nike headbands, tight shirts on bulging muscles, shadowboxing, fist pumps, scissor kicks and frosty sneers.
He is the ultimate fighter on the tennis court, but many despise his ritualistic habits and stoic manners. He has the audacity to intimidate his opponents through sheer will. There is nobody who would not bet on Nadal if he were placed in a steel-cage death fight with the more hulking Tomas Berdych.

Soap Opera Drama
He is unlike his other great rivals. Roger Federer is the shot-making artist who plays tennis with imagination and beauty. He can shed empathetic tears for the joy of winning or pain of losing. Above all, he is consistent with his greatness and everyman charisma.
Novak Djokovic is an engaging and genuine personality, but someone who turns into a tennis cyborg with his overpowering and perfectly lethal groundstrokes. He is the definition of relentless and hard-driven pursuit, the outer-planetary Star Trek Borg against whom resistance is futile.
Andy Murray is the scruffy sidekick who does everything with his intensity bubbling over a little too much. He borders on greatness, but is still turning pages to find where his star will land.
Hi-res-170235711_crop_exact Clive Brunskill/Getty Images
But Nadal still borders on mystery even if he is the central figure to this Golden Age of tennis. He is compelling, great champion. Has he won his final Grand Slam title? Will he win six more? We just don’t know.
It’s like tuning in to an ongoing soap opera. He’s an open-ended narrative with episodes where he will dominate the scenes or disappear. He is the lead or might not appear at all. As soon as one episode ends, we have about three other storylines that may or may not relate to what just happened.
As always, there is turbulence around Nadal. Emotional and career conflicts seem to hover in his sky like swelling rain clouds. If things were calm and easy, he would cease to be Rafa the fighter.

Rock-Star Appeal
Will he show up at Toronto, Cincinnati and the U.S. Open? He’s like an elder Elvis Presley, a larger-than-life rock star playing to invigorating fan reception. His career has changed him physically, but added more economy to his movements. He senses when to peak or when to drop the microphone.

Rest assured, there will be more Nadal moments and images. We never see him performing anything halfway, whether winning, losing or not showing up. He will dig in when all seems lost and hit a running banana-curve forehand up the line.
Rarely does Nadal's narrative project the details of his next performance. It’s pointless to wonder if losing in the first round at Wimbledon will have any meaning for his chances at the U.S. Open.
What are Nadal's chances he will bounce back and win the U.S. Open? It's anybody's guess.
When it comes to Rafa, expect the unconventional route to more success.

Brazilian 12-year-old compared to Leo Messi turns down Barcelona offer

Being offered the chance to enter Barcelona's mythical youth academy, La Masia, is like being handed a golden ticket by Willy Wonka himself to a young footballer. The press — even in the U.S. — lavish praise on the system that has had so many success stories and the relatively few kids who are deemed worthy of La Masia usually jump at opportunity (if their parents don't throw them first) to join. But 12-year-old Cassiano Bouzon decided to pass, instead opting to join Flamengo in his native Brazil.
Cassiano drew international attention as the "Next Lionel Messi" of December 2012 when clips of him scampering around opponents twice his size hit YouTube along with news that he had been invited to La Masia for a three-week trial. That resulted in the highly coveted offer from the Spanish champions, but according to Globoesporte, Barcelona did not offer to pay for his family to move with him. So Cassiano, with the help of his father, settled on joining six-time Brasileiro winners Flamengo instead.
As a result, Barcelona will have to content themselves with having the actual Lionel Messi. And Neymar. And about a dozen other kids who have been labeled the next Messi.
