TRAGIC: Nigerian Teenager Dies in Indian Prison

A 17-year-old Nigerian teen has died at a state-run juvenile home in Narshingarh, India, after suffering a cardiac arrest, local police confirmed on December 26, 2013, Thursday.

The late Nigerian, Arah Joel, had been in the home since September 14, after he was caught by Indian Immigration for allegedly forging visa.

"Juvenile Home officials rushed him to the hospital after he started complaining chest pain, but he died on the way. Doctors said he suffered massive cardiac arrest,"an officer of the local police station said in The Hindu report.

The deceased was among four Nigerians caught on visa forgery charges or illegal trespass from Bangladesh through different border check points into Tripura this year. The other imprisoned persons are Okechukwu Stanley (36), Aroegido Jul (30) and Uba Kaibia Amalah (21).

A senior official of the Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi, Jacob Nwadibia confirmed the High Commission was aware of the incident.

"The High Commission would decide on further course of action in this regard,"Nwadibia said over the phone.

It would be noted that India is not a really friendly place for Nigerians, recalling two attacks on our nationals in the last two months.
