There is no chance of Reina returning to Liverpool after THAT letter, reveals Rodgers..... Read more here...

Brendan Rodgers will not consider bringing Pepe Reina back to Anfield after insisting the Spaniard's decision to join Napoli on loan ended his Liverpool career.

Reina, a hugely popular figure with Liverpool fans, joined his old ally Rafa Benitez last summer on a 12-month deal after the club made clear they could not justify having a player on big wages sitting on the bench but has said he 'needs to go back to Anfield' to make a decision about his future.

Rodgers, however, maintains it would be a wasted journey. The Liverpool manager admitted to being surprised about the tone of an open letter Reina published on the club's official website when his move to Italy went through and was pointed in his comments.

Simon Mignolet, who cost £9million when arrived from Sunderland last July, has endured a shaky spell of form in recent weeks but Rodgers has made it clear that Reina, who still has two years to run on his lucrative contract, will not be coming back to put pressure on the Belgian.

'He's already written his (goodbye) letter hasn't he?' said Rodgers.

'I was surprised at the letter when you are a loan player so I would suspect that he should come back.

'But Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli he was looking to move, as he penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he'd worked with and thanked for his time for Liverpool. So for me it probably sounded like he'd made his decision there.'
