EXCLUSIVE: United ramp up move for Sporting star Carvalho... who can expect bumper pay rise on his £4,000 a month in Portugal

David Moyes has identified the answer to his midfield woes at Manchester United – a 21-year old who is one of poorest-paid top-flight players in Europe.
Such has been William Carvalho's dramatic emergence at Sporting Lisbon this season that he has been dubbed the new Patrick Vieira and been watched by United scouts, and Moyes himself, no fewer than 12 times.
But despite a 45million euro (£37.16m) release clause being inserted in his contract, Sporting have yet to bring his wage into line and are still paying him exactly 5,000 euros (£4,129) a month.
As a stark reminder of the contrast in salary scales between the Barclays Premier League and some of Europe's less wealthy nations, it would take Wayne Rooney roughly two hours to earn that much, under the terms of his new £300,000-a-week United contract.
Aware of strong interest from United and Atletico Madrid, Sporting are belatedly trying to redress the balance by offering him a 900 per cent increase to 50,000 euros a month in exchange for a pledge he will stay with them at least one more season.
But the Angola-born Portugal midfielder could easily triple that at Old Trafford and is eager to convince Moyes that he can continue his rapid rise to prominence and slot straight into United's starting line-up next season.
Though impressed with his box-to-box style,Sportsmailunderstands Moyes has reservations about meeting the 45million euro clause, in a stance that has echoes of last summer, when he baulked at a £36m buy-out figure for Ander Herrera and missed out on the Athletic Bilbao midfielder.
