APC/PDP Clash: Father Shoots Son Over Amaechi's Visit

The traditional ruler of Rumueprikom community in Obio Akpor LGA of Rivers State, Eze Anthony Owabie, allegedly shot his son at his palace on Wednesday, August 13, over a scheduled visit by Gov. Amaechi to the area.

Governor Amaechi as part of his three-day visit to the local government area was scheduled to visit Rumueprikom which is said to be the community of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of State for Education, who is a member of the opposition, People’s Democartic Party (PDP).

According to Daily Trust report, on that day, hundreds of youths who heard of the planned visit gathered at the popular Wimpi junction and barricaded all entrances to the traditional ruler’s residence where the governor was expected to pay homage.

The tension continued to build and the youths were approaching the palace of the monarch, a strong supporter of Gov. Amaechi. The monarch was said to have fired gunshots to scare the approaching youths away and his own son, Prince Clement Owabie was accidentally hit by the shots.

“The boy sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital,” a witness said.

This resulted in a violent political clash between members of All Progressives Congress, APC, and loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leading to injuries and destruction of some properties in the area
