Wolverine star Hugh Jackman has been offered £65million to appear as the superhero in five more movies
A spokesman for Jackman, 44, who won his first Oscar nomination for
last year’s Les MisĂ©rables, refused to discuss the star’s reluctance to
jump at the fortune on offer.
In a recent interview, father-of-two Jackman said his actress wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 57, was against him playing Wolverine from the first movie in 2000.
The franchise has reaped more than £1.6billion worldwide at the box office.
A senior source at distributors Fox said: “We’d love to have Hugh playing Wolverine for the next decade or even longer.
“He is considered one of the studio’s major assets.”
But surprisingly, the Australian actor is said to be “dithering” over signing the mega contract.
He has told studio bosses he is worried about being typecast as the razor-clawed X-Men character.
