Samuel Eto'o enters talks with West Ham over shock move to Upton Park

West Ham have opened talks with Samuel Eto'o over a shock move for the veteran striker.
Sportsmail understands the former Chelsea striker's agent Claudio Vigarelli held face-to-face talks with manager Sam Allardyce in London on Wednesday.
And the Hammers are working on a deal to bring the Cameroon star to Upton Park ahead of next season.

The Hammers are desperate to sign a new forward following the news that Andy Carroll will miss the next four months with an ankle injury.
And the East London club are ready to offer Eto'o a 12 month deal.
Eto'o is a free agent after his release by Chelsea last summer and is keen to stay in London.

Aspas urges Moreno to reject Liverpool

Liverpooloutcast Iago Aspas has urged Alberto Moreno to reject any offer from the Anfield outfit in favour of staying with Sevilla.
The forward, who was signed by Brendan Rodgers last summer, has been sent on loan to the Liga side after failing to score in 14 league outings during the 2013-14 season.
Moreno has been a target for Liverpool during the summer, with Sevilla demanding close to €23 million for their left-back, and Aspas has insisted the player would be wise to stay in Spain rather than move to England.
"Albert Moreno would never feel like he does in Sevilla at Liverpool," he toldABC de Sevilla.
"I've been here for three or four days. Now that I belong to Sevilla, I prefer he stays here."
Liverpool have already seen a bid of €20m plus attacking midfielder Suso rejected for Moreno as Rodgers looks to further add to his squad following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona for €88m.
Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi have already arrived for a combined fee of around €113m, while Liverpool claim a move for Loic Remy failed due to medical reasons.

Rodgers promises more Liverpool signings this summer

Brendan Rodgers is keen to further bolster his Liverpoolsquad, insisting the club "still have business to do" this summer.
Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi have already arrived for a combined fee of around €113 million following Luis Suarez's €88m move to Barcelona.
Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno has been touted as the next arrival at Anfield, with the Liga outfit demanding €23m for the player, and Rodgers is hoping to have secured his targets by the end of the transfer window.
"We still have some positions that we want to fill within the squad so that by the end of August we have a strong group of players to go forward with," he told reporters on Thursday.
"We've still got some business to do."
Liverpool heavy investment has been likened to Tottenham's €120m spree as Gareth Bale left last summer, which heightened expectations only for the north London outfit to finish sixth in the league.
Rodgers rejected such comparisons earlier this week, adding: "Clearly we were not strong enough last season in terms of numbers and quality.
"We always planned to bring in a number of players, hoping we were going to be in the Champions League, so it would give us the opportunity to challenge on all fronts."

Luis Suárez in 2008: "I dream of playing for Barça"

Luis Suárezadmitted that he wanted to play for Barcelona in an interview which he gave back when he was an Ajax player.
"I used to dream of playing for Barcelona and I still do", confessed Suárez back then, when he was just 21 years old and was making his first inroads into European football after a season at Dutch club Groningen.
The video was circulated on Wednesday by the journalist Marcos Vitette, a personal friend of Suárez, after he got in touch with the player in Spain.
The striker is currently preparing for his Barcelona debut in isolation, after being handed down a harsh punishment by FIFA for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the Brazil World Cup.
Vitette recalled that the 2008 report was filmed at Montevideo's Centenario Stadium and that Suárez "was very nice".
"When he watched the clip back, he said that he sounded a little haughty and that his hair looked awful", the Uruguayan journalist said of his recent conversation with Suárez.
As for the present-day player, the journalist said that Suárez "was happy" for the six-year-old video to be released because "it says nice things" about a young man who "has been through some bad times", but who is now enjoying the present and "wants to move forward".

Van Gaal tells Manchester United: I only want Strootman

Louis van Gaal has told Manchester Unitedthat he is prepared to wait until January to sign Kevin Strootman rather than bring in a weaker central midfielder this summer.
The United manager is a huge fan of Strootman and the club will monitor the Roma midfielder's recovery from a serious knee injury with a view to trying to sign him in the new year.
Van Gaal has described the United squad as 'not balanced' and the Dutchman wants to sign a box-to-box central midfielder to bolster his side - but he is happy to wait to land a top-class target.
Arturo Vidal has been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford, but while Van Gaal has declared his admiration for the Juventus star, club officials have been keen to play down any prospect of signing him this summer.
Interest in Germany international Toni Kroos earlier in the summer cooled before he joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich, while concerted interest in Real midfielder Angel Di Maria looks like coming to nothing with the Argentine likely to join Paris Saint-Germain if he leaves the Spanish capital.

Van Gaal is adamant that the club need not panic buy, and is more than happy to work with his current midfield options come the start of the new Premier League season - with a view to making a move for Strootman in January.
That means the likes of Tom Cleverley look set to initially be given a far bigger role to play at Old Trafford than many may have expected. The former Wigan Athletic loanee, something of a scapegoat during the David Moyes era, has been given the captain's armband in pre-season and is one of a few of the club's fringe stars with a point to prove in 2014-15.
Van Gaal worked closely with Strootman, 24, in his previous role as Netherlands coach and believes his compatriot is perfectly suited to the Premier League and the style he wants to implement at Old Trafford.

Commonwealth Games security members sacked after taking 'selfies' with Usain Bolt

Three members of security at the Commonwealth Games have been sacked after taking a photograph with Usain Bolt.
The incident occurred when the Jamaican sprinter was training beside Hampden Park ahead of his country's 4x100m relay heats on Friday night.
Volunteers at the 2014 Glasgow Games have now been warned by supervisors to remain professional at all times, in light of the controversy.

In addition they have also been told not to approach Bolt or any other athletes for 'selfies' with the competition near to a close.
One volunteer at Hampden told the Evening Standardthat this wasn't the first-time that Bolt had been approached by staff asking for a picture with him.
'The [supervisor] was saying we shouldn't be doing that with out mobile phones,' the volunteer said.
'Everyone was taking photographs of him but these two guys got punted [sacked].'
Bolt, the double 100m, 200m and 4x100m Olympic champion, arrived in Glasgow on Saturday but was thought not to have played any part in the three security guards' dismissal.

Justin Fires Another Shot At Orlando: I Balled Now You Bawl

Justin Bieber has declared Instagram war on Orlando Bloom ... with a pic of the Brit dissolving into tears. It's Bieber's second Instagram salvo ... hours after Orlando took a swing at him at Cipriani restaurant in Ibiza he posted a sexy pic of Miranda Kerr and then quickly took it down.

Miranda -- the Helen of Troy in this war -- was the trigger for the bar scuffle. It's clear Orlando felt Justin was banging her while they were still man and wife. We'd say there's no use crying over Miranda, but then again ...

the reason she was with Orlando back in March is because their manager organized an event for his clients at We Day in Oakland. As for the widely-circulated photo of Orlando and Selena at a Chelsea Handler show in L.A. a few weeks later ... it was nothing more than a smoke break. They were actually with their respective groups of friends and happened to be next to each other when the pic was snapped.

Jose Mourinho says Romelu Lukaku was 'not motivated' to fight for his place at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho fired a parting shot at Romelu Lukaku on Wednesday night after the striker sealed his £28million switch to Everton.

He said: 'The thinking was first of all the fact that Romelu was always very clear with us that in his mentality and his approach he was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation at Chelsea.
'He wanted to play for Chelsea but clearly as the first choice striker which in club of our dimension very difficult to promise to a player that status. That reduced, immediately, his desire to come to us.
'After that Everton came with an important offer and as I always say, because it's the reality of our club and we want to do things well and be inside the FFP rules, it's always in the thoughts of the board, when you have the chance to make some movement that create positive impact on FFP we always analyse these situations.'
Mourinho wanted to emphasise there were no hard feelings in the sale of Lukaku: 'The important thing is that he's happy and things work well for him, he's a good kid and has his way of thinking and organising his career project.
'All I can do is wish him well. He deserves luck and to be happy.'

Callejon plays down Napoli rift

Jose Callejon says he is happy to stay at Napoli despite reports of a blow-up with Coach Rafael Benitez.
The forward has told Marca that his future lies in Serie A and he hopes to build on what he felt was a good first year outside Spain after it was reported he was ordered out of training by Benitez for a poor attitude.
"It was a very important year for me. It wasn't easy to come to a different country and city where you know no one, but the Coach called and convinced me," the former Real Madrid youngster said.
"From there I tried to learn Italian and adjust to my new environment as quickly as possible. I'm very happy with how things went.
"I have a contract and I'm happy at Napoli. It was very risky and difficult to leave Real Madrid and come here but again, I'm very comfortable.
"Rafa really understands me. He has trust in me and gave me this chance that I was missing in Madrid. And last season I played every game.
"A player needs continuity, regularity, to be important to the team, and the Coach has given that to me.
"It's clear that I feel important and I've had minutes. Things are going well. When a player feels valued by the Coach, for his love and that of the club, it's clear he'll be very happy."

Female suicide bombers may be Chibok girls-Oby Ezekwesili,Bukky Shonibare

Recently it seems Boko Haram has changed their modus operandi and now use female suicide bombers. On Monday, two struck in Kano..Oby Ezekwesili of #bringbackourgirls campaign raised an alarm on twitter that the Chibok girls may be the ones now carrying out suicide bombing..She wrote on twitter
"It feels like eternity since April 14 when our girls lost their freedom. How can we move on like that? This new trend and serial pattern of female suicide bombers surely should particularly worry us.
"Female suicide bombers are again and again becoming the trend and our Chibok girls are still in the enemy's den. It worries me stiff. Are we thinking? Our Chibok girlsreally need to be rescued from the clutches of evil. Another key member Bukky Shonibare wrote..
"Seems abducted women that were undergoing indoctrination and brainwashing while in hostage for years are now being sent out as suicide bombers. However, 100 days is long enough for anyone's ideologies or principles to be distorted, especially teenagers whose values are still being shaped.
"To know the possible impact of 100+ days on one's ideologies, psychologists say it takes only 30 days! It is now increasingly dangerous to leave those girls there. Whatever is it they are doing may be counterproductive.
"They (Chibok girls) can be indoctrinated, brainwashed, or put under duress to do this. In the face of death, no sensible human will be a 'willing participant.' There'll definitely be an element of coercion,"

Retirement is not a possibility - Ronaldinho

The 34-year-old has looked back fondly on his time with Atletico Mineiro and is confident there is one more chapter to his storied career.
Brazil legend Ronaldinho has confirmed that he will leave Atletico Mineiro but has stated that he is not yet ready to retire.
The 34-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable career, notably with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and AC Milan, while he has won 99 caps and lifted the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea with his national team.
Since leaving San Siro in 2010, the Porto Alegre-born player has returned to Brazil, playing with Flamengo and latterly with Atletico - with whom he lifted the Copa Libertadores - and he believes his career still has one final chapter.
"Retirement, for now, is not a possibility," he told the media.
"Right now my brother [agent Roberto de Assis] is doing all the thinking. Starting next week, we'll talk about my future. I'll take these days to just stay away from everything and get some rest. But I know his phone has been ringing a lot."
The attacker departs the Belo Horizonte side on good terms and admitted that he was happy with his spell there, which included the club's first Libertadores success, as well as his career as a whole.
"I was happy enough to be champion at every club I've ever played, and they all have a special part in my heart," he said. "Barcelona is the club where I've stayed for longest. But Atletico has touched me very deeply. Winning a title the club had never won before, that sort of thing sticks with you. Galo is very special to me, for everything."
Ronaldinho, who is widely considered one of the 21st century's greatest players - having won the Fifa World Player of the Year prize in 2004 and 2005 - has been linked with moves to Boca Juniors and the A-League, amongst others.

'In Pepe's eyes, I'm not human' - Keita accuses Real Madrid defender of racism

The former Barcelona midfielder explains that a spat during his La Liga days was behind his ugly confrontation with the Portugal international this week.

Romamidfielder Seydou Keita claims racist remarks made by Pepe earlier in his career were the reason behind his midweek confrontation with the defender.
Prior to Roma's International Champions Cup clash with Real Madrid, Keita threw a water bottle at Pepe after refusing to shake his hand, sparking a coming-together between both sets of players on the pitch.
Following the incident, Keita took to his official Twitter account to state that Pepe had racially abused him during his playing days with Barcelona, writing: "1. He called me a monkey during Madrid-Barca, 2. I did not shake his hand, 3. He spat on me, and after I threw the bottle, sorry for my attitude".
Speaking toRF1later on Wednesday, the 34-year-old Mali international explained he had decided before the game not to shake the Portugal international's hand and was provoked into throwing the bottle when Pepe spat at him.
"At the time I played with Barcelona, Pepe called me a 'macaco', that is to say a monkey, and he spat on me. I told myself: 'This guy is worthless,'" he said.
"At the time, I did not speak publicly about it because it wasn't worth it. That's why I didn't shake his hand before the friendly. I even told my intention to my team-mate Mehdi Benatia. So I greeted everyone except him.
"And suddenly he came up behind me and spat on me. At the time, I had a bottle of water and I threw it at him. His team-mates saw us and they had the intention to strike me.
"It's true that I gave a bad image of myself and I apologise. But it's lucky we were on a football field because it's unacceptable that one man spits on another. I don't see why I would shake his hand, because in his eyes I'm not a human being.
"I don't want to talk to someone who does not consider me a human. His behaviour is unacceptable. Instead of asking why I didn't shake his hand, he preferred to spit on me.
"I'm not saying I'm a saint. Like everyone I have flaws, but I respect people."
Keita's comments come during a week in which racism has once more grabbed the headlines in Italian football, with Fifa demanding an investigation after FIGC vice-president Carlo Tavecchio referred to young African players moving to Serie A as "banana eaters".
Keita, however, does not believe racism is endemic in European football.
"No, we shouldn't generalise," he said. "I am African and I've played a long time in Europe. I have often met wonderful people.
"From time to time there are small-thinking ones who are not very nice, but I've rarely had to endure such behaviour. For me, that is too many. If some use football to say and do anything, it's a minority. I don't want to generalise."

Cuadrado agent reveals Barcelona talks

The 26-year-old shone at the World Cup for Colombia and his representative revealed there have been tentative conversations regarding his availability.

Juan Cuadrado's agent has admitted holding talks with Barcelona, but bizarrely claimed none of the discussions have been official.
The 26-year-old shone at the World Cup as Colombia reached the quarter-finals of the competition, sparking rumours he was a target of the Spanish club, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Cuadrado's agent, Alessandro Lucci has now revealed he has spoken to Barcelona regarding his client's availability, while also insisting none of the interest is "official".
"We have been talking with Barcelona as well as other clubs for a while," Lucci toldTuttomercatoweb.
"We have noted a lot of interest but, as of today, there are no official talks, not with Barcelona or any other club.
"Barcelona is represented by very serious professionals that in our conversations have never, let me repeat it, never talked about using dodgy strategies.
"I'll take the chance to clear out things on another subject.
"The relationship we have with all at Fiorentina, personal and professional, both for me and for Cuadrado, is exceedingly good.
"Should there be in the near future some important, first level, talks we will sit down, analyse the pro and cons and close the deal to the maximum satisfaction of all parties involved."
Cuadrado's current contract with Fiorentina runs until June 2017.

Official: Everton sign Lukaku in €35m deal

The Belgian has returned to Goodison Park permanently, where he scored 15 league goals on loan from Chelsea last term, after falling further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order

Evertonhave completed the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelseaon a five-year deal for a fee of £28 million (€35m).
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, scoring 15 Premier League goals, and has now made his move permanent after not featuring in Blues boss Jose Mourinho's plans for the new campaign.
Everton made a breakthrough in agreeing termson a deal for the Belgium international - a fee that eclipses the previous €19m club-record signing of Marouane Fellaini.
Lukaku, who enjoyed an extended break after his World Cup exploits with Belgium, was thought to be keen to be reunited with Roberto Martinez, under whom he flourished last term.
And, upon completing his move, he told Everton's official website: "I am really excited about rejoining Everton. I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff, the players and the fans.
"I can't wait to get started again and I'm looking forward to a successful season."
Manager Martinez added: "Welcoming Romelu Lukaku back to Everton on a permanent basis is the news that all Evertonians wanted to hear.
"We know that Romelu is still a young man and the potential that he has is quite unique, and we are desperate to see him enjoying his football and to watch him grow as footballer in the years to come.
"The arrival of Rom is more than just a signing, it's the fruition of a lot of hard work to get the player we wanted. This is a big moment for Everton's history and the perfect way of getting the squad ready for the start of the season."
Chelsea have already moved to overhaul a frontline that misfired last season, with Diego Costa joining from Atletico Madrid and club legend Didier Drogba returning on a one-year deal.

Landlady’s children cut tenant’s private part (Photo)

A 35-year-old man, Yinka Offehin, is battling for his life at a private hospital in Lagos State after his scrotum was cut by the children of his landlady.
The Edo State indigene, who resides on Popoola Street, off Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos, was said to have been attacked while sleeping in his room with his family members.
His wife, Bisi, who was with him when the incident happened, identified the assailants as Solomon and Damilola, the children of the landlady.
She said, "On Thursday morning, around 3am, while we were sleeping, we heard loud bangs on our door. We initially thought they were armed robbers because the house beside ours had recently been robbed."When they entered, we saw they were children of our landlady. They began destroying our electronics and other property.
"There were two of them. One held a knife in his hand. They took N800, 000. They descended on my husband and he also fought back. In that confusion, my husband shouted and we saw that one of the attackers had cut Yinka's scrotum. I can't say what they used to cut off my husband's scrotum."She added that her husband, though in pain, was able to hold on to one of his attackers till dawn, while the other fled the scene.
Bisi said her husband could not be admitted at a general hospital because of the ongoing doctors' strike, but was eventually taken to a private hospital in the area.
When our correspondent visited the victim at the hospital, he told Punchthe genesis of his problem was when he had a misunderstanding with his landlady and was asked to vacate his apartment.
"I was asked to leave the house immediately, but after the intervention of the traditional ruler of the community, I was asked to leave by the end of August. But that decision did not go down well with the children of my landlady and they continued to make trouble with me.I was already planning to leave their house and had even contacted an agent when they attacked me without any provocation. I want the government to fight for me,"
A doctor in the hospital, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that his patient would need up to three months to recover.
He said,
"We have stitched the area where the scrotum was torn. It may take up to three months before it will eal. He needs time to fully recover from the injury."A relative said the doctor told the family if the condition did not improve, a surgery may not be ruled out.
It was learnt that about N60, 000 had already been spent by the family.
The father of the suspects, a pastor, when contacted, declined comment. He said,
"I am sorry; I can't speak with you on this matter. You know the matter is already with the police and those they accused of committing the offence are in the police cell. So, what do you want me to say? I was told they are taking the matter to court. Let's leave everything to God."
Our correspondent learnt that the case was reported at the Ikotun Police Division.
A source told our correspondent that a member of the suspects' family had on the morning of the incident reported a case of armed attack on them by a tenant.
The wife of the victim, who met the relative at the station, reportedly expressed surprise, telling the officers the reverse was the case.
It was learnt that the relative was put behind the counter after the police saw the victim's injuries.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident.
She said, "
It was around 3am, while the victim was sleeping in his room, that one Solomon Olowogbemi and Damilola Olayeye, the children of his landlady, came in and started fighting with him.In the process, they inflicted injury on him with an unknown object. The skin of his scrotum was partly cut off, thereby exposing one of his testicles. The two suspects have been arrested and detained and the victim taken to a hospital."

Ibrahimovic called Xavi a clown, says Chygrynskiy

The Ukraine international is full of admiration for the experienced attacker's strong character, even though the attacker was never afraid to criticise his Camp Nou colleagues.

Dmytro Chygrynskiy has hailed former Barcelonateam-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic's "amazing personality", revealing how the striker once called Xavi "a clown" in training.
Chygrynskiy and Ibrahimovic played alongside one another at Camp Nou during the 2009-10 campaign and the Shakhtar Donetsk centre-back has nothing but fond memories of the Paris Saint-Germain attacker.
"I have never met someone with such a strong character. A lot of people were against him at Barcelona, but he never really cared and focused on his football," Chygrynskiy toldSovietskiy Sport.
"Ibrahimovic once told me, 'When I am the best on the training pitch, I feel like a god going into the matches.'
"He didn't mind scolding Xavi and Andres Iniesta. I remember him telling Xavi 'You clown, what kind of pass is that' after a poor ball in training.
"I'm not saying he's the best player in the world, but he's an amazing personality. His character could cause the coach some problem, but he was the best for me."
Chygrynskiy, 27, joined Barcelona frmo Shahtar in the summer of 2009, but returned to his former club again after just one season at the Liga giants.

David Luiz is not a defender, slams Leboeuf

The ex-Chelsea ace has warned PSG boss Laurent Blanc against using the 27-year-old at the back, arguing that the centre-half "goes missing" far too often.

Former France international Franck Leboeuf has questioned Paris Saint-Germain's decision to sign David Luiz as he feels the Brazilian has proven to be too unreliable to play in defence.
PSG paid Chelsea €50 million to lure the versatile centre-half to the Parc des Princes, but Leboeuf fears that the Ligue 1 champions will come to regret the transfer.
"I think that David Luiz has a lot of qualities. But he alternates good moments with spells where he goes missing entirely," Leboeuf toldRMC.
"He is not a defender. The fact that Jose Mourinho put him in midfield at Chelsea is an indication that he wasn't convinced by his defensive ability.
"The problem became quite obvious at the World Cup. He was playing up front rather than in defence after just three minutes of play in the semi-final against Germany. That's the thing that scares me."
The 27-year-old started his professional career with Vitoria and also wore the Benfica jersey before joining Chelsea in January 2011.
He signed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.

Keita throws water bottle at Pepe and refuses to shake hands

Things briefly got out of hand ahead of Tuesday evening's friendly in Dallas after an incident involving the midfielder and the defender

Romamidfielder Seydou Keita caused uproar ahead of his side's pre-season friendly against Real Madridby refusing to shake Pepe's hand and throwing a water bottle at the Portugal international.
The two have endured a troubled relationship ever since Keita's time at Barcelona, when the midfielder accused Pepe of racism after a Spanish Supercup match between Madrid and Barca in 2011.
The 34-year-old had clearly not forgotten about the incident and blanked his nemesis when both teams were shaking hands before kick-off.
Keita then threw a water bottle in Pepe's direction, too, leading to a minor brawl on the pitch involving Sergio Ramos among others.
Meanwhile, Pepe kept his calm following the Malian midfielder's actions and a smile appeared on his face after the projectile narrowly missed him.
Things eventually calmed down after a brief conversation between Xabi Alonso and Keita and Roma would go on to beat Madrid 1-0 in the friendly in Dallas.

Van Gaal: I want a new defender

Louis van Gaal admits Manchester Unitedare still in the hunt for at least one defender ahead of the new season.
United have already recruited Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera this summer, while Van Gaal has given opportunities to youngsters Reece James, Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett on the club's pre-season tour.
But strengthening the defence remains a priority for United after the departures of experienced campaigners Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra this summer.
United are confident of completing the signing of Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen, but any deal has stalled due to Arsene Wenger's desire to confirm a replacement before sanctioning a departure.
Netherlands international Stefan de Vrij was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after an impressive showing at the World Cup in Brazil, but Lazio revealed on Tuesday they have completed a deal to sign him.
"I am looking at the defenders we have first," Van Gaal told reporters.
"And, when you see our three matches, we are doing well, I think. But it is right that we are looking for defenders, because a lot of defenders have gone.
"We have to replace them but I also like Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett."

Health: Ebola virus: Why isn't there a cure?

Ebola first appeared more than three decades ago, but there is still no cure or specific treatment for the disease, in part because the dangerous nature of the virus makes it difficult to study, experts say.
People with Ebola are treated with only general therapies meant to support the ill patient. They might be given fluids (Ebola patients are frequently dehydrated), or treatments aimed at maintaining blood pressure and oxygen levels, and treating infections if they develop, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So why aren't there more specific treatments for Ebola?
Part of the reason is that Ebola is caused by a virus, rather than bacteria, and researchers in general have had a harder time developing treatments for viral diseases, compared with bacterial diseases, said Derek Gatherer, a bioinformatics researcher at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom who studies virus genetics and evolution.
"Antiviral therapy has lagged behind antibacterial therapy for decades," Gatherer said.
That's because viruses are small molecules that produce only a handful of proteins, so there are fewer "targets" for treatment, Gatherer said. For this same reason, it has been hard to develop a vaccine against Ebola; a person's immune system (which is primed by vaccines) has a small target, Gatherer said.
Ebola virusesalso evolve quite quickly, so it's not clear whether a vaccine developed today would protect against future outbreaks, he said. (Ebola viruses belong to a family of viruses called Filoviridae, and there are five known species of Ebola virus.)
And because the virus is so dangerous in some outbreaks, the mortality rate has been as high as 90 percent researchers must work with the virus in special facilities with high-level safety precautions, which limits the number of experiments that can be done.
"There's only a handful of places in the world were you can actually do Ebola experimentation," Gatherer said. Ebola viruses require a "biosafety level 4" laboratory the highest level of protection.
In addition, relatively few people have ever been infected with Ebola, and even fewer have survived, thus making it hard to study the virus in people or examine whether there are certain biological factors that help people survive, Gatherer said.
Ebola first appeared in 1976, in outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. The origin of the virus is not known, but it is thought to reside in bats.
People become infected with Ebola through close contact with infected animals, and the virus spreads person-to-person through contact with bodily fluids, such as blood or secretions, according to WHO. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain and headache, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash and, in some cases, internal and external bleeding, WHO says.
TheEbola virus attacks immune cells, and can cause the immune system to run out of control and release a "storm" of inflammatory molecules, which cause tiny blood vessels to burst, Gatherer said. This blood-vessel damage can cause blood pressure to drop, and lead to multiple-organ failure, Gatherer said.
Some potential Ebola treatments show promise in animal models, including compounds that interfere with the way the virus replicates. Other experimental treatments aim to prevent the virus from entering cells, by blocking the proteins on the surface of cells to which the virus binds.
Another therapy in the works involves injecting mice with parts of the virus and using their antibodies to treat infection. In a 2012 study, four monkeys with Ebola survived the infection when they were given a combination of these antibodies one day after infection.

Must Read: This is the worst Ebola outbreak in history. Here’s why you should be worried.

The worst Ebola outbreakin history has put a number of countries in West Africa in lockdown, led to the deaths of nearly 700 people since February and brought new reports of doctors, including Americans, contracting the virus they are attempting to contain. The situation is undeniably scary. Here's what you need to know.
What is Ebola?
Ebola viral disease is a highly infectious illness with fatality rates up to 90 percent, according to the U.N. World Health Organization. Symptoms initially include a sudden fever as well as joint and muscle aches and then typically progress to vomiting, diarrhea and, in some cases, internal and external bleeding.

The virus spreads through contact with bodily fluids of someone who is infected. Reports of human infections usually first emerge in remote areas that are in proximity to tropical rain forests, where humans can come into contact with animals such as chimpanzees, gorillas and forest antelope. The consumption of bush meatis often a precursor to such outbreaks. The WHO says fruit batsare probably the natural host for the virus.

Why is it called Ebola?

It's named after a tributary river in northern Congo. In 1976, a village near the river was the site of one of two simultaneous outbreaks of the disease (the other was in Sudan). Of the five known strains of Ebola, the four that are transmittable to humans are found in Africa. A fifth, the Reston virus, ravaged monkey populations in the Philippines, but no humans in its environs have contracted the illness.

Can Ebola be cured?

There is no known vaccine or cure for the disease, but if caught early, it can be battled like other viruses such as influenza. The CDC says supportive therapy such as administering liquids and electrolytes and maintaining the patients' oxygen status and blood pressure can combat the virus. Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, the Paris-based medical NGO, said a strict quarantine while treating patients is essential to controlling outbreaks and was vital when the group's doctors helped containan outbreak in Uganda in 2012.
Ebola can spread in alarming ways; there have been incidents in which the disease has spread at funerals for victims. Public health officials deem an outbreak to be over only after 42 days have elapsed without any new confirmed cases, which is leading some to predict that the current crisis may last well into the autumn.

How bad is the current outbreak?

Bad — very, very bad. It's concentrated in three small West African states: Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, where reports of Ebola infections first emerged in February. The outbreak has claimed more than 670 lives and, worryingly, infected medical personnel attempting to stop its spread. A prominent Liberian physician died Sunday.

What's particularly scary, though, was the recent death of a Liberian man in Lagos, the bustling coastal mega-city in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country. The man, a consultant for the Liberian government, had traveled from Liberia through an airport in Lome, the capital of Togo, before arriving in Nigeria. The hospital where he died is under lockdown, and the WHO has sent teamsto Togo and Nigeria.

So what can be done now?

Those who have contracted the virus and the medical personnel treating them need to be kept under strict quarantine. That's easier said than done, especially in countries where resources are limited and public health protocols are not always heeded. On Monday, Liberia sealed off most of its border crossings (it has kept its main airport open). Nigeria has placed all entry pointsinto the country on "red alert." The threat of the virus spreading beyond the immediate region remains real, and authorities have to be vigilant. A patient may manifest symptoms of the virus only three weeksafter getting infected.
One of the continuing challenges is getting local populations to abide by the edicts of government authorities and foreign health workers. The WHO has repeatedly warnedabout the risk posed by mourners reclaiming the bodies of the deceased for traditional burial ceremonies. But in some cases during the current outbreak, families have refused to hand over the bodies to officials; some communities have staged roadblocksto halt ambulances and launched protests outside hospitals and clinics.

Wait, why would they do that?

The hysteria caused by the spread of Ebola has led also to the spread of rumor and conspiracy theories. Angry crowds have accused foreigners of bringing the virus in their midst: In April, the threat of violenceforced MSF to evacuate all its staff from a treatment center in Guinea. In Sierra Leone, which has the largest number of Ebola cases at present, thousands protestedover the weekend outside the country's main Ebola treatment facility in the eastern city of Kenema.
Police had to disperse the crowd with tear gas and a 9-year-old was injured in the leg by a police bullet, Reuters reports. The demonstration was sparked, the news agency claims, by a rumor spread in a nearby market that the disease was a ruse used to justify "cannibalistic rituals" being carried out in the hospital.
Liberia and Sierra Leone have societies that still live with the traumas of brutal civil wars. Susan Shepler, a professor at American University who is conducting field work in both countries, writesthat such concerns and hysteria have as much to do with systemic failures in governance as they do with local superstitions:
Really who among us would want to turn a sick loved one over to a hospital staffed with foreigners, knowing we might never see them again? And hospitals in this part of the world have notoriously poor service. Families routinely have to prepare meals and bring them to patients. Families have to go to local pharmacies to buy drugs and even gloves or needles from India or Nigeria because hospital storerooms are routinely not stocked. People's apprehensions about the failings of the healthcare system come from experience, not from ignorance.
And so as the outbreak rumbles on, the panic surrounding it may be spreading just as virulently.

Ray J Regrets Kim K Sex Tape ... I Never Shoulda Banged 'Bitches' On Camera

Regrets ... Ray J's had more than a few, and he lays them all out in a new song that includes a not-even-thinly veiled shot at his ex sex tape partner Kim Kardashian. In "Never Shoulda Did That" ... Ray confesses and sorta apologizes for a bunch of crap.

But the line that will have Kim's ears ringing -- "f***ing bitches on camera, shouldn't a did that s***."
He also cops to taking drugs, fighting in clubs, yelling at friends, and cheating on his GF Princess Love -- who makes a cameo ... we're told that's her drunkenly weeping on a voice mail in the song.
Here's the thing ... Ray J may sing he shouldn't have banged Kim, but we know his bank account screams otherwise. He's still making coin off of "Kim K Superstar."All the other stuff -- he probably does regret ... and should.

Sabella quits Argentina

Alejandro Sabella has reportedly resigned as Argentinacoach, with former Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino set to replace him.
Widespread reports in the Argentine media claim the 59-year-old has informed the nation's football association of his desire to quit on the back of their World Cup final defeat to Germany this summer.
Just two weeks ago Sabella admitted he was unsure whether he had the necessary motivation to continue in his position.
He said: "You have to fill the energy tank, which sometimes gets empty. I have to think if I'm in condition to give 100 per cent."
Argentina will have to move quickly to fill the hotsteat given they have a friendly with Germany on September 3, as preparations begin for Copa America 2015.
Former Barcelona boss Martino, who quit Camp Nou at the end of the season, is the frontrunner to replace Sabella, while Colombia boss Jose Pekerman has also been touted as a leading contender.
Sabella was appointed in August 2011, with his exit bringing to an end a three-year spell in charge of Argentina.

However, Gremio and president Fabio Koff - the man who first appointed Scolari back in 1993 - have convinced him to make a swift return to management and announced the news via their official Twitter account on Tuesday.

Scolari will work with Andre Jardina as his assistant, while Darlan Schneider will be his assistant and Fabio Mahseredjian the club's fitness coach.

He will hope his second spell at the club is as successful as the first, when they won one Brazilian championship (1996), three state titles (1987, 1995, 1996), as well as the Copa Libertadores (1995) and Recopa Sudamericana (1996).

The father of Argentina and Juventus star Carlos Tevez has been freed after being kidnapped and held for eight hours.
Segundo Tevez was taken by a group of assailants at around sunrise on the outskirts of Buenos Aires but was 'in good shape' after being released, according to the family's lawyer Gustavo Galasso.
Argentine TV station C5N said Tevez was set free after a payment of 40,000 pesos (£3,000) but neither the family nor the police confirmed this.
The former Manchester United and Manchester City striker was given permission by Juventus to leave Italy but reports there said he was not going back to Argentina following news of the release.
La Nacionin Argentina reported that Tevez was driving his car in the municipality of Moron, a province of Buenos Aires, when he was taken hostage in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Volkswagen Vento vehicle has been found abandoned and Argentine websites claim that the three men reportedly guilty were not aware of the identity of Tevez's father but once they discovered his background, they made extortionate financial demands over the phone to the player's family.
Tevez was adopted by his maternal aunt and her husband, Segundo Tevez, as a baby.

Barcelona have announced record income for the 2013-14 season in financial results that also saw the club post its second highest ever profit, per the Catalan club's official Twitter account:

The 2013/14 season produced the second highest profit ever: €41 M (vs 49 M € in 2011/12) #fcblive

The Blaugrana posted a poor season on the pitch but appear to have successfully maintained their grasp as one of the sport's highest-earning clubs. Despite finishing second in La Liga, having been knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter- final stage and losing the Copa del Rey final, vice president Javier Faus provided a summary of profit received:

Javier Faus explains that the accumulated profit under the current board amounts to €113 M #fcblive

Back in 2012, Faus stressed the club must "reduce the debt to sustainable levels" and "not take on more debt," per the club's official site (subscription required), a goal which looks to have been achieved throughout the last year:

The 2013/14 financial year saw a reduction in the net debt by €44 M. Since the board came into office, it has decreased by €143 M #fcblive

Barcelona made a huge investment to sign Neymar last summer, a deal which cost the side €86.2 million, reported by Sky Sports. Discrepancies with the payment, originally said to be €57.1 million, were investigated for a "misappropriation of funds," but Faus wished to stress Barcelona's recent returns are compliant and proper:

Faus has stressed that the Club has gone for 4 consecutive years with clean audits, without exceptions #fcblive

Neymar's popularity allowed his Brazil shirt to outsell Team USA's in America at the World Cup, reported by Danielle Elliot of Yahoo, ensuring Barcelona can rely on the tricky forward's name for quite some time at club level.

Real Madrid's James Rodriguez recently recouped in the region of £20 million, nearly a third of his £63 million transfer fee, by shirt sales alone, according to Alex Sharp of the Daily Mail. Considering this happened in just two days since he confirmed a Bernabeu switch, Neymar can also be expected to post hefty club shirt sales as World Cup fever drags on. Neymar's nationality and likely starring role at the Russian World Cup in 2018 may have also aided Barca's sponsorship deals in the two countries, as hinted by the club.

The board have continued to spend after Gerardo Martino's departure and will hope this season's marquee signing, a certain Luis Suarez, will aid finances. The Uruguayan doesn't possess the same market appeal as Neymar, who is a brand in himself at the age of 22. Suarez previously lost sponsors 888poker after he bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, his third biting charge throughout his professional career, per Ben Smith of BBC Sport. Currently serving a four-month ban from all footballing activities, it will be extremely interesting to see how the controversial star's arrival affects next season's annual report.

Jose Mourinho has revealed he approached Luka Modric about a possible move to Chelsea but the Croatia international wanted to stay at Real Madrid.

"I called Modric only privately but he doesn't want [to join] Chelsea," Mourinho told Croatian newspaper SportskeNovosti. "You know I really appreciate Luka Modric and his qualities. But he stays in Real Madrid."
