Amanda Bynes' entertaining yet strange behavior took a turn for the serious when she was placed on psychiatric hold by the police last week. Fellow '90s Nickelodeon star Nick Cannon is feeling her pain; he reached out to his former All That castmate in an open letter that he posted on his Tumblr Wednesday. He begins his letter by saying that Bynes is "someone I consider family, someone I watched grow up, and someone I genuinely feel is one of the most pleasant human beings I have had the pleasure of meeting."
The America's Got Talent host reflects on the dangers of young celebrity and states that what Bynes has been going through is "no laughing matter."
"When a person is told all of their life that they are awesome, the best, the greatest and they are catered to every moment of the day ... Anything you ask for or want, the world gives you, at some point you are bound to self-destruct," Cannon said.
Cannon also explains the pressure of the media and being in the public eye, and says that people should give Bynes a break."I ask people who are quick to judge, tweet, report, or comment to ask yourself; what if that person was my sister? My brother? My Mother? Or me? What then would I say?" Cannon said. (Check out the whole letter here, it's worth a read.)
Who knew that the guy from Wild 'n Out had such interesting insights on celebrity culture? But while it's nice of him to be so understanding and to offer kind words to his "sister," I hope he also tries to contact her personally. Maybe he's afraid she would just call him ugly.
