The Kwara State Government yesterday, August 14 announced its first case of Ebola in the state. The Chairman of EVD Committee, Prof Sunday Opabola, told reporters in Ilorin, the state capital, about the suspected case. He said the suspected case was discovered on Wednesday in a seven-month-old baby who came into the state with her mother as visitors from Ibadan, Oyo State. But he assured residents of the state not to panic over an outbreak in the state. However, for fear of the Ebola virus spreading, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Public Health, Professor Sunday Opabola announced the immediate closure of a private hospital in the state Professor Sunday Opabola, and his counterpart on Secondary Health, Dr Ibrahim Gambari, speaking further on the suspected case of the Ebola virsu said the seven months old baby girl suspected to be infected with the virus has already been isolated and quarantined in a specialist hospital. He explained that upon their entry into the state recently, the child was taken to a hospital over a case of malaria, adding that after the baby had spent three days on admission and there was no sign of improvement, the doctor treating her reported the case to the Ministry of Health for prompt action.
