Daniel Sturridge has been injured in England training and is subsequently a doubt for Monday night's Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland. Sturridge will undergo a scan on Friday afternoon before being assessed by England medics to see whether he will be able to feature in Basel.
The Liverpool striker's absence would be a further blow to England manager Roy Hodgson, who reacted angrily to media questioning after his side's laboured 1-0 win over Norway at Wembley on Wednesday evening.
A tweet on the official England account read: "Daniel Sturridge felt an injury in training this morning and will go for a scan this afternoon. He will then be assessed by England medics." Arsenal's signing Danny Welbeck would be the likeliest candidate to replace Sturridge against the Swiss, though Wayne Rooney may also be moved into the No.9 position as he continues his quest to become England's all-time top scorer.
