Mexican football club Queretaro has signed Brazilian striker Ronaldinho, a former champion with his country in the 2002 World Cup, the club's owner said on Friday.
Olegario Vazquez, director of Grupo Empresarial Angeles, which bought the club in May after the prior owner was found to be at the centre of a fraud scandal, said via Twitter that Ronaldinho had joined Queretaro as of Friday. ESPN FC contributor Tom Marshall shared this Tweet from Ronaldinho's account:
RT @10Ronaldinho: I chose Mexico because of the affection that I've always received here. Very motivated to represent @Club_Queretaro!!

Ronaldinho, 34, has played in Brazil since returning from Europe in 2011 after a successful career at clubs such as Barcelona and AC Milan. The playmaker was Brazil's starter in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, but was left out of the tournament in 2010 and 2014.
He could make his debut as soon as Sept. 12, against Mexican rivals Puebla.
Vazquez did not immediately disclose how much the club paid to sign Ronaldinho.
