Horrified patients were rushed out of a doctor's surgery today after a pensioner walked in and apparently shot himself dead.
The 80-year-old died instantly after stumbling into the men's toilets at Station Road surgery in Frimley, pulling out a gun and shooting himself.
Police firearms teams were called to the scene and discovered the pensioner dead in a pool of blood.
Patients were ushered from the surgery as police cordoned off the area.
A Ford Focus car which is believed to have been the dead man's was found parked on double yellow lines with its number plate taped over outside the surgery.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named , said: "I heard a loud crack like a car had backfired, but I didn't think it was a gunshot, that's not what you expect to hear on a Monday morning."
Ed Tse, 25, said he heard 'a bang like a gunshot' while working in his father's Chinese takeaway which backs onto the surgery.
He said: "I heard a bang around 10.30am and at first I thought it sounded like the bins being collected.
"The surgery is always throwing stuff out so hearing the bang of a bin is quite common but this was louder.
"I went around the corner and there were lots of people and police cars around - it was chaotic.
"I did think the noise was much louder than the usual bin noise and it sounded like a gunshot."
The surgery has been operating for more than 70 years and has five doctors and five nursing sisters working on site.
Following the shooting it was closed as investigators scoured the scene for evidence and patients were sent to a neighbouring surgery for care.
