Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he held a crisis meeting with Aaron Ramsey to help revive the young Welshman's career.
A series of injuries had stunted the 23-year-old's development and he was routinely singled out by the Emirates Stadium faithful during the latter years of the club's nine-year trophy drought, with Wenger reluctant to play the under-fire midfielder.
But, after a confidence-boosting sit down with his manager, Ramsey emerged as one of the Premier League's leading stars last term, scoring 16 goals and helping the Gunners win the FA Cup.
"I sat down with Aaron and I told him, 'I don't think people don't like you, but they don't like your game at the moment'," the Frenchman explained during the club's pre-season tour of the United States.
"He had to come back to a more simple game... then you saw a different player, because he is intelligent, and when I came out of the meeting I knew this guy would come back."
Ramsey started Arsenal's 2-0 win over Boreham Wood, their first friendly of the pre-season schedule, and is expected to feature again against New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening.
