Oracle Reveals Man Who Committed Suicide Is Alive, Held Captive By Mermaid

Mr Dauda Erunowo, a butcher and an indigene of Igbo-Ora, Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State, on November 1 committed suicide by jumping into a river along Igbo- Ora/Eruwa road.

It was being speculated that he committed suicide over debts incurred from a business transaction.

His corpse was discovered floating at the bank of the river a week later.

A family member who pleaded anonymity said, on that fateful day, Dauda, who was over 50 years old did not return home at the usual time which caused the family members to be worried. His children then proceeded to Towobowo market, Igbo-Ora to inquire about his whereabouts, where his colleagues said he was seen in his shop in the early hours of the day, but did not discuss exactly where he was going with anybody.

He was later reported missing.

However, a resident revealed to the family that he had seen Dauda at the riverside along Igbo-Ora/ Eruwa road and when asked his mission there, had claimed to be there to get herbs. His motorcycle was found by the riverside but he was nowhere in sight. They called on the Fulanis to help search the river for him but he was still not found.

The family members then consulted the oracle and it revealed that Dauda was still alive and he was going to come back home soon.

They consulted another herbalist who disclosed that Dauda was been held by the mermaid (Yemoja) in the river and therefore, a sacrifice was needed to be made to appease the gods. The sacrifice was offered but he still didn't show up.

His corpse was later discovered around 5 p.m. at the bank of the river and his family members who were shocked by the discovery took the corpse home and buried him the second day according to Islamic rites.

It was alleged that he committed suicide over enormous debt he owed his colleagues and some other customers. But his colleagues debunked the rumour, claiming Dauda's death was spiritual and had been predestined.

However, one of his colleagues said that Dauda truly owed some debts, but didn't specify the amount of money involved.
