Now Manchester United striker Robin van Persie caused controversy by celebrating his winning goal against Arsenal a week ago.
Robin van Persie's excitable goal celebration last week caused quite a bit of upset among fans of his former clubArsenal.
When he had netted against them last season he had been restrained and chosen not to risk agitating supporters, not so on this occasion.
It was not the only time an ex-Arsenal player has caused upset among Gooners by celebrating enthusiastically, with Emmanuel Adebayor's notorious act of antagonism in 2009 especially memorable.
After netting in a 4-2 win for Manchester City, Adebayor sprinted the length of the pitch to celebrate right in front of the Arsenal fans, sparking furious scenes in the away end.
The two are vey different, Adebayor's deliberately provocative, and we are not comparing the two - simply the principle of celebrating against a former team.
So it is interesting to view old quotes from none other than Robin van Persie condemning the Togolese striker following the match.
Van Persie, also angry after being stamped on by Adebayor during the game, commented:"He has shown a real lack of class today, to me and the fans."
We just wonder whether Arsenal fans feel Van Persie showed class or not last Sunday...
Has Van Persie shown himself to be hypocritical, or was his celebration last week fine in your eyes?
