REVEALED: I Have No Regrets Writing to GEJ – Obasanjo Confesses

Ex- PresidentOlusegun Obasanjo said he had never regrettedwriting his scathing letterto President Goodluck Jonathan in December 2013.
OBJ revealed this in an interview to BBC on February 13, 2014, Thursday.
He said that the letter was not meant to be confrontational, but was aimed at drawing the President's attention to national issues.
He said if Jonathan wanted any discussions on their relations, or on any other matter, affecting both of them, his doors would remain open for that.
"Since I wrote the letter, we spoke about six times,"Obasanjo said, according to a news item on the BBC Hausa website.
Asked if he regretted writing the letter, Obasanjo said:
"Why should I regret? You only regret when you fail to do the right thing before it's too late. But writing a letter at the right moment, a letter that is the right letter to write, and you wrote it, you should not regret writing that."
It would be recalled that in his letter to Jonathan, Obasanjo accused the President of condoning corruption, parochialism, dishonesty and training a killer-squad. He said Jonathan had promised him previously to do only one presidential term.
Butin his response, Jonathan accused Obasanjoof endangering the national security and making false, substantiated allegations.

He Tied My Mouth And Raped Me For An Hour, I'm Glad A Bus Hit Him - 12 Year Old Narrates Rape Ordeal

On January 18, 2014, Adeleke, who is an apprentice meat seller at Tinubu Market in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, allegedly added his name to a long list of sexual predators walking the streets of Lagos.
That day, which would change the life of 12-year-old Bisola (not real name) forever, was when Adeleke ambushed the young girl and raped her for one hour.
Adeleke was eventually arrested but in his attempt to escape from the police custody, he was hit by a moving vehicle when he ran across the road.
Adeleke's boss supplies meat to Bisola's mother, a food vendor. It was learnt that the suspect had on occasions delivered meat to the girl's mother.
Giving detail of the incident, Bisola narrated;
"I followed a friend to buy sugar in the market (she sells sugar to assist her family) and when I was coming, he (Adeleke) told me to follow him to their shop to collect meat for my mother. I followed him but I did not enter the shop. There was nobody else around. It was after 7pm. He told me to enter but I said he should bring out the meat. He then said I should take the meat from the freezer. As I attempted to open the freezer, he grabbed me and tied a cloth over my face and mouth. "He held me down and pulled off my pants. He did not leave me until around 8.30pm. I could not shout. The place was dark."
The girl paused, her eyes moist with tears as she narrated the story. "I am happy a vehicle hit him," she said.
Bisola was raped for an hour by her estimation. She said she remembered the time Adeleke finally released her because she had to look at the clock on the wall of the shop because she knew her mother would have been looking for her. The young girl rushed out of her captor's embrace bleeding and bruised. But shame and confusion would not allow her to go straight to her mother.
Her mother narrated that on that fateful day, she had expected Bisola to return but when she did not, she retired to bed, thinking that her daughter must have stayed late in her friend's house.
"I heard her enter the house later. But around 3am, she started to sob loudly," she said.
Both mother and daughter live in a small decrepit wooden shack around Gowon Estate.
When the woman went to check on her daughter, she noticed her underwear was soaked in blood. which had started running down her legs. She was about to scream but quickly changed her mind because she was afraid of alerting her husband, Bisola's step-father, to what had happened.
"But by morning, I could not hide it anymore. She told me the person responsible for it and around 5am, we went to report at the Gowon Estate Police Division, Ipaja. The man was later arrested," the woman said.
Bisola was taken to the hospital and a doctor who examined her immediately recommended surgery to repair her damaged private part. After the surgery, she was on admission for two days.
The doctor's report obtained by our correspondent indicated that she was brought to the hospital "bleeding profusely from second degree laceration in her private part and broken hymen."
But a day after the young man was arrested, he was released by the police.
Director of the Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, said she intervened in the matter when the victim's step brother reported the incident to her.
She told Saturday PUNCH, "It was really absurd that he would be released that way. I could not believe that in the face of the increasing child abuse and molestation being reported every day, the police could still release a suspect without promptly charging him to court.
"The girl was raped on a Saturday; by Monday, the man was arrested. But by Wednesday, the family said they went to the police station and were informed by the investigating police officer that he had been released.
"I informed the Lagos Public Advice Centre of the development and officials of the centre contacted the police division. The IPO was forced to rearrest the boy. I just wonder if the police have heard of the Child Rights Act."
One of the reasons for enacting the Child Rights Act in 2003 is to stem the tide of child abuse and molestation in Nigeria and reinforce the legal provision against it.
Adeleke was rearrested and locked up preparatory to his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
But the suspect had a different idea. He decided to escape. As soon as the IPO turned her back, Adeleke ran out of the station and was about to cross the road when he was hit by a commercial bus.
Of course, the bus did not stop, as he would later tell our correspondent in the hospital.
An OP Mesa military team, who saw him injured on the road took him to the hospital.
Asked why he decided to escape, he said, "I was just afraid. I did not know that it would become such a serious matter."
But when he was asked why he raped the girl when he could have paid to sleep with a commercial sex worker, he said he did not rape her.
"I did not rape her sir. She is my girlfriend. We have been dating since early last year. She always called me 'okobo' (a Yoruba word for eunuch)," he said.
Bisola's mother would later refute this claim as a concocted story because she only moved to Ipaja with her daughter in August 2013.
Adeleke disputed that Bisola is just 12 years old which makes her a minor.
He said Bisola had told him that she was 18 years old. But when our correspondent met the girl, there was nothing to indicate that a man could be fooled into thinking she could even be up to 15 years old.

The Child Rights Act prescribes a sentence of 14 years for a person found guilty of having sexual intercourse with a child.
Director of the Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, who rescued the children and handed them over to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviationn, hailed the judgment as a message to paedophiles in the state that the law would catch up with them.
She said, "I cannot be happier about how this case turned out. It is not only about the fact that the law has prevailed but that it is now clear that child defilement cases can be effectively prosecuted.
"Anybody who feels that defiling children is their core competence should understand that it is just a matter of time, the law will catch up with them. The lives of those children have been changed forever, their father should spend some time to ruminate about that behind bars."
There was no way of reaching the mother of the abused children, Kemi, for comments. The woman who has since remarried in Oyo Stat has remained incommunicado since her children were taken into custody by the state government.
Adetayo is to spend his sentence at the Kirikiri Prisons.

Why I Was Framed Up Over Bola Ige’s Death —Senator Omisore

Former deputy governor of Osun State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyiola Omisore, yesterday, explained why he was framed up on the death of the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
Chief Ige was on December 23, 2001, murdered in his Bodija residence in Ibadan by a yet to be identified gunmen.
But fielding questions from newsmen in Osogbo, Senator Omisore who was the prime suspect in the murder case along with some of his associates stated that one of the reasons was to cover up the murder of a former House of Assemly member, Hon. Odunayo Olagbaju who was killed few days before Ige.
According to him, another reason was the second term ambition of the then governor of the state, now chairman of All Progressives Congress APC, Chief Bisi Akande.
Looking back, Senator Omisore who was persuaded in 1999 to step down for Chief Akande by their party then, the Alliance for Democracy, AD, stated that he had no regret for obeying the party's directive.
Omisore, one of the leading PDP governorship aspirants in August this year's election in Osun State also noted that there were no progressives again in any of the parties.
He said: "We don't have progressives again in this country. It is mere deception and propaganda. PDP, APC and any other party are the same thing. It is just a matter of political convenience."
Omisore called for the immediate redeployment of Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Ambassador Rufus Akeju from the state alleging that he cannot conduct a free and fair election.

I Didn’t Kill Bola Ige – Ministerial Nominee

The vexed issue of who killed former attorney-general and minister of justice, Chief Bola Ige, resonated on the floor of the Senate yesterday.
A ministerial nominee from Osun State, Alhaji Abduljelili Oyewale Adesiyan, made spirited efforts to clear his name from accusations that linked him to the brutal murder of Chief Ige.
The former justice minister was assassinated in his Bodija home, Ibadan on December 23, 2001.
As the Senate resumed the screening of ministerial nominees yesterday, former Adamawa State governor, Mr Boni Haruna, was the first to appear before it for his screening.
However, when it was the turn of Adesiyan to be screened, the question of who killed former attorney-general and minister of justice came up.
Senate President, David Mark, had in his usual manner asked Adesiyan to give explanations especially on those things that were not included in his curriculum vitae which he submitted to the Senate.
Adesiyan who was nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan from Osun State noted that he was one of those wrongly accused of having a hand in the death of Chief Bola Ige.
He said he knew nothing about the death of Chief Bola Ige, adding that the allegation against him was all political blackmail.
"I was detained for three and a half years for something I knew nothing about. I stand here to say that I knew nothing about the death of Chief Bola Ige."
Adesiyan described Chief Bola Ige as his political mentor, whom he had no reason whatsoever to kill.
There was sustained murmuring in the chamber as Adesiyan appeared to be emotional as he spoke about the late Chief Ige.
Senator Ehigie Uzamere (Edo South) interjected, raised his hand and was recognised by Mark.
Uzamere said, "Mr Nominee, you mentioned in the course of your speech the death of Chief Bola Ige. Can you swear by the Quran that you do not know anything about the death of Bola Ige?"
Some senators protested, shouting that the Senate chamber was not a place of worship or shrine. Others said that there was no Quran in the chamber.
Uzamere was not intimidated by the protest of some of his colleagues as he insisted that Adesiyan should answer the question.
In his response, Adesiyan said, "I do not know whether I can be availed of a copy of the Holy Quran. But I maintain that I did not kill Chief Bola Ige."

Kaduna South is running out of brooms as a result of the All Progressive Congress (APC) registration.
According to DailyTrust, many shop owners and residents were requesting for brooms from in Zangon Kataf, when a former Deputy Governor of the state, Engr. James Bawa Magaji, moved to villages in Kaduna South shortly after his registration in Fadan Kaje Gida, on February 12, 2014, Wednesday.
"We've been searching for brooms in many of the shops here but all they tell us is that it's finished.
"Some of us have been putting calls across to our friends but they tell us there are no brooms",Samaila Emmanuel, a resident, said.
Since the APC registration started, Okada riders, market women and other individuals who want to identify with the party have been rushing for brooms. The coming home of Engr. Bawa Magaji to register as an APC member made it a more scarce commodity, with many shops making brisk business out of it.
A shop owner in Zonkwa, Peter Bahago, said he had never sold brooms as he did since the APC registration commenced.
"I am surprised, the broom market had never been as good, and we are grateful that we made good sells when Magaji came to our area",he said.
It would be added that the APC in Kaduna commenced its membership registration in a peaceful atmosphere with reports of high turnout.
Some members of the party, however revealed that there were hitches, when they trooped to the registration centers without passport photographs.

"People are looking far too much into my private life, I would advise them not to because I'm the Italy striker and they should leave me alone to live my life as I want so I can perform to my best on the pitch," said Balotelli.

"On the pitch I'm relaxed, just as I was against Napoli although it wasn't our day. Even tonight wasn't a great game for us, but I settled it with a goal."

Balotelli's strike, amid what was a poor display by the struggling Serie A giants, had club CEO Adriano Galliani purring.

"It's the goal of the year," said Galliani.

The win over Bologna also saved the blushes of coach Clarence Seedorf, who later called for fairer treatment for the Italy star.

"Leave Balotelli in peace a little, he's a national team star and people should be right behind him," said the 37-year-old Dutchman.

"I'm not worried about how he's developing, he will become one of the world's best players but that can only happen in an environment in which he feels he feels supported.

JUST IN! Famous Politician Shot Dead By Sleeping Policeman In Kwara

Tragedy struck at a hotel in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State about 11.15pm on Friday when a policeman, Yunus Muideen, allegedly shot dead, a popular politician in the LGA, Femi Awoyale.
Awoyale was said to be a former Irepodun LG chairmanship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party.
It is provided that youths of Oro town launched protest when they heard of Awoyale's death.
According to an eye witness who pleaded anonymity, the management of the hotel had invited policemen to ensure security of lives and property at the hotel for Valentine fun seekers.
He added that about 11.15pm on Friday, Muideen, a corporal, who was said to have been sleeping after allegedly being drunk, was woken up by noise from the vicinity.
It has been learnt that the cop thinking that the noise was from trouble makers shot twice in the air apparently to scare the suspected hooligans. The source added that after the noise had stopped, Muideen who is a corporal was about to take another nap when he suddenly hit his gun against the wall.
After the gun had hit the wall, one of them reportedly hit Awoyale on the chest. The politician subsequently fell down and died before he could be treated.

Mesut Ozil, Arsenal's £42m man, outshone Juan Mata.

The German was involved a lot more in the final third and created far more chances for his team-mates.

The former Real Madrid maestro created seven chances for Olivier Giroud and Co to put away, whereas Manchester United's recent acquisition only created one chance for front two Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie to convert.
Mata's display in such a big game might lead Chelsea fans to concede that Jose Mourinho may actually have made the correct call when offloading the Spaniard - even though they were left baffled at the time.
The competition to be the pass master was also very one-sided as Ozil had more than double the amount of successful passes than Mata, with 67 compared with the United man's 31.

Mata may have played 15 minutes fewer than his opponent but it's hard to believe that he would have bridged the gap in that time, especially with Arsenal in the ascendancy.

All in all, young midfielder Adnan Januzaj must be wondering why it was he that lost his place in the starting XI to Mata, having easily been United's best player this campaign.

As for Ozil, he could be forgiven for wondering why on earth his manager didn't buy another top class striker to put away the chances created by the Germany star.

But NET called the company, Lenovo, and they say Iyanya is on his own, they don't even know who he is.

"I can't really say on that. I don't know anything; I don't know who he is. Honestly I don't know anything, maybe you should call him and ask him yourself", Lenovorep in Nigeria, Mr. Olumide said.

Another source in MMMG also told NET that Iyanya is just lying for cheap popularity:

"There's no signing, Iyanya is just trying to bounce some hype around and get some mentions online, which he did", he said.
What is wrong with Iyanya? He should get to the studio and pray he comes out with a hit, instead of lying!

Two NYSC Members Arrested For Homosexuality

Two serving members of the National Youth Service Corps, O'tega Daniel, 27, and Sulaimon Abari, 26, have been arraigned before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates' Court sitting at Iyaganku for engaging in homosexual practices with a male student.
The corpers who were arraigned on Monday are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, procuring as well as getting hold of their victim.
They were both serving at at St. Louis Secondary School 2, Molete, Ibadan.
The incident was said to have taken place sometime in November 2013 at Osungbade, Odo-Oba area of Ibadan.
Addressing the court, the prosecutor, Inspector Olufemi Eyiaromi said they both conspired to commit the offence, alleging that Daniel got hold of the male student, took him into a room, laid him on a bed as well as caressed and orally sucked his manhood until the minor released sperm.
Abari was said to committed same offence on the same victim.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
