Ebola Survivors Meet With Fashola, Tell Their Stories

Five Nigerian Ebola survivors met Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola on September 18, 2014, and told their stories, revealing some seriously unpleasant facts.

Three of the governor's guests were health workers of First Consultant Hospital, they got infected after contacting Nigeria's index case Patrick Sawyer, who "imported" the virus into the country from Liberia in the end of July.
Luckily, there is currently no active case of Ebola infection in Nigeria, however the epidemic continues ravaging the West African region. The number of deaths from this year's outbreak has almost reached the terrifying figure of 2,500. The number of new infection cases expected to rise, in worst-case scenario, to 20,000 by the end of this year.

Nigeria has managed to contain the virus spread, but due to the present situation the danger of new wave cannot be excluded. As for now, the brave survivors share their experience and describe what the fight against Ebola was like for them.
"We said we would risk our lives to protect Lagosians"
According to Vanguard, the first to speak at the meeting was Dr. Adaora Igonoh, who expressed joy and gratitude to God for saving her life. She thanked Fashola for his support.
"We are privileged to see this day and to be here with everybody, it is an honour. Thank you so much Governor Fashola, we can't thank you for everything. We at First Consultants Medical Centre took a risk, we risked our lives because we knew that we wanted to ensure the safety of Lagosians,Nigerians and humanity because we are a global village; from a small village it can spread to the world and we knew the implications, but we said we would risk our lives and we would not let the index case leave the hospital."
"I did not want to admit it was Ebola"

Dr Fadipe Akinniyi said how sincerely wanted to believe that her case was malaria but not Ebola, when she noticed the EVD-related symptoms.
"I am most happy here today because as matter of fact, when everyone was running helter-skelter, I told myself I only opened the door and by the virtue of that, nothing should happen to me. I never knew I was deceiving myself, until the day I recorded my temperature and there was a kind of spike. I told myself what is going on. Once I have treated malaria a while ago and I told myself that it could be malaria. I used anti malaria drugs but nothing changed, rather it was getting worse. Eventually, I went to a private hospital to treat myself because I did not want to admit it was Ebola. I felt they would be able to proffer solutions to all my problems but it wasn't to be so. Rather, it was becoming terrible and I started stooling and vomiting. I summoned the courage and called the doctors at the monitoring units that my temperature has been persistently high."
"She was two months pregnant, it was her first day on the job and first patient, Patrick Sawyer"She just resumed that day, I encouraged her to go to work, but she was reluctant because of her situation, but I had to convince her to go and tell them in the Hospital about her condition so that they can give her more time. That was just the first day. When she came back, the following day she went to work again, then the next two days, she was off. We were just at home when the case was announced the case of Sawyer and she told me that she cared for him at the hospital and I asked her if she was sure about what she said, because we have been hearing about it. I asked her what kind of contact she had with him and she said she used protective gloves. Hearing that, I felt rest assured."
"Sawyer lied to me"
Dr. Ibeawuchi Morris was the one who received Sawyer when he was rushed with symptoms to the hospital. At that time Morris did not know it was the deadly tropical virus.
"When I got there, I was just talking to him. It was very unlike me. Being a doctor, you must examine your patient. After due examination, I asked him some questions. But Patrick Sawyer lied to me, even the ECOWAS Protocol Officer, who sat there, kept quiet.
"He asked him why he was in First Consultant. He lied to me that he was in a conference and felt so weak. As a result, people now rushed him to First Consultant not knowing that he collapsed at the airport. On that very day, the ECOWAS Protocol Officer was there and did not say anything. After sometime, I took his samples and sent it to the lab. I also informed Dr. Adadevoh (now of blessed memory). I informed her. She told me to get back to her as soon as the result is out. When the result came out, everything was normal. But that night, the liver function test was not available. I told Dr. Adadevoh about MP result, and she was so confused and shivering because the man came in with a temperature of 39.7."
Then the narrator explained in detail the symptoms and the further development from the medical point of view adding that the patient's state was rapidly worsening.
"That made us to be so concerned. After we went around, Dr. Adadevoh went for her daily clinic. It was at that point that one of the ECOWAS officers now came in and brought us information that Patrick Sawyer collapsed at the airport. After that, she asked whether I got the information. That was how the whole thing started. From there, we instituted barrier nursing technique. She tried as much as possible to get through to the Lagos State Ministry of Health. Again, I was asked to get Sawyer's sample."
Fashola commends guests
The governor and those in attendance dedicated a minute silence for those who lost their fight against Ebola.
Fashola sympathized with the survivors over the trauma they experienced. Several times the state leader stressed the courage of theirs and thanked them for professionalism adding that their stories are crucially important lessons for the future.
"You have helped us to take next step forward. And you have helped us to put an end to the spread of the EVD,"he concluded.

'How I was Recruited By Boko Haram Insurgents'

A 34-year-old man, Oyebuchi Romanus, who hailed from Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria, has revealed how he was forcefully recruited by the Boko Haram insurgents in Jos, Plateau State.
While speaking with newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State on Wednesday, 17 September, 2014, Romanus stated that he was recruited by the Boko Haram terrorists in May this year and taken to a place near Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State for training against his wish.
The Igbo man added that he was recruited by insurgents shortly after he had lost his business in a bomb blast that rocked Jos early this year.
Romanus said while he was lamenting over the loss of his business, unknown men forcibly put him in the boot of their car and later discovered that they were driving towards the Northern part of the country.

He claimed that he couldn't resist the terrorists because he was drugged before he was bundled in the boot of a car.
Romanus informed that when they got to their destination, his abductors finally introduced themselves as members of the Boko Haram sect.
He said he was asked by his abductors to join them or they would kill him.
"I accepted to join the Boko Haram group to save my life. My religious belief and upbringing forbid me from killing my fellow human being which made me not to participate in any of their activities.
"And when they realised this, they started threatening my life even to the point of swearing in the name of Allah(God) that they would killed me if l continue to dodge their activities.
"But when I saw how serious they were, I decided to run away from their camp to Niger Republic when I was asked to fetch water from a nearby river before finding my way back to the state," Romanus narrated.

He claimed it was the prayers of Nigerians that helped him to escape from the training camp of the insurgents near Madagali.
It would be recalled that it was reported few weeks ago that the Boko Haram sect has been forcefully recruiting youths into the Islamist group.
Last week, the father of the personal assistant to acting Governor of Adamawa State, Tanko Wazimtu was killed in his Madagali residence by youths who are members of Boko Haram group.
It was gathered that Pa Wazintu, 75, was killed by members of the Islamist sect in the presence of his wife and daughter.

Xavi: If it were up to me I’d never leave Barcelona

Xavi has made it clear that he cannot imagine seeing himself play against Barcelona and he is keen to stay at his current club until the end of his career. The influential midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from the Camp Nou side this summer, with Manchester United and Bayern Munich allegedly interested in his signature, along with sides in Qatar and the MLS. However, Xavi admits he would find it tough to walk away from the club he has played for throughout his career. "If it was up to me I'd never leave Barcelona," the 34- year-old was quoted as saying by AS. "I could have left many times but my feelings always won out. "I told the club that I didn't want to play for another team in Europe; I didn't want to play against Barcelona. "I would like to end my career here. But circumstances are what decide these things." Xavi's current contract with Barcelona runs until June 2016.

Michel: We used Atletico Madrid Tactics to beat Atletico Madrid

Olympiakos coach Michel feels his plan to replicate Atletico Madrid's playing style worked a treat after Tuesday's 3-2 Champions League win over last year's losing finalists. The Greek champions opened their campaign in stunning fashion, upstaging Atletico at the Karaiskakis Stadium. Goals from Arthur Masuaku and loanee Ibrahim Afellay helped the hosts to a two-goal lead inside 31 minutes, before Mario Mandzukic pulled a goal back for Atletico. Greece international Kostas Mitroglou restored Olympiakos' two-goal cushion after the break and that proved enough, despite Antoine Griezmann's late strike. "We forced Atletico out of their comfort zone, which is what they usually do to their opponents," Michel said at a press conference. "We played like a team, like [Diego] Simeone's side does. All of my players understood what they had to do. We are very happy. We tried to spoil their game and we succeeded. "Atletico haven't conceded three goals in a very long time. All coaches study their opponents closely, but today my players worked incredibly hard. We got the win and we are delighted. "We played a bit like Atletico usually do and we took them by surprise. It worked out very well for us and we got our tactics spot on. "You don't achieve things like we achieved tonight every day. Getting into the last 16 again would be great news for us – it would even better than when we did it last season."

Jose Mourinho Continues Feud With Pep Guardiola

The latest chapter in the feud between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola took place in an unexpected location this time around.
The two managers were participating in a UEFA coaches summit in Switzerland when they exchanged subtle jabs at each other.
The conversation was centered around what the length of grass that all UEFA pitches should be.

Guardiola wanted the grass to be cut down from 3cm to 1.5cm and he wanted it to watered before every match. The shorter grass and watered pitch is better for the slick passing game that Guardiola prefers his teams to play.

Of course Jose Mourinho would have a little something to say about that. He preferred the length of grass as is and many assumed it is because that longer grass would slow down the matches and decrease passing, something Jose Mourinho has shown he prefers.

Jose Mourinho responded to Pep's request by saying, "Everyone has his style of play, which should be respected. Football can be spectacular in several ways."

To which Guardiola responded, "The beauty of football depends on the coach. It seems to me that Mourinho prefers the result to the spectacle. I know to him that's all that matters."

Beef is on! Don't they say unlike charges attract, not in the case of Pep and Mou tho!

Atletico will not underestimate Real Madrid, insists Juanfran

Atletico Madrid full-back Juanfran has insisted that the reigning Spanish champions will not be over-confident in Saturday's derby clash with rivals Real Madrid.

Both sides meet at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend after a two-week international break and the fixture will mark the third encounter between them already this season after they contested the Supercopa de Espana last month, with Atletico triumphing 2-1 on aggregate.

With Real Madrid having blown a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 at Real Sociedad in their last La Liga outing, it was put to Juanfran that now could be the best time for Atletico to face Carlo Ancelotti's men, but the 29-year-old is taking nothing for granted and insists there is never an easy time to come up against the European champions.

"We never get too over-confident at this club, whether it's against Real Madrid or anyone for that matter," he is quoted as saying by AS.

"We play the game to win and leave the egos in the dressing room. The derbies are always evenly matched. The Real Madrid fans already see us through different eyes.

"If we play well then hopefully we can win at the Bernabeu, as we have done before.

"To win in Madrid, you must do everything well. We will continue to play our game knowing full well how difficult it is to win at the Bernabeu." Atletico currently sit sixth in La Liga with four points from two games, one point ahead of Madrid.

Wenger: I had no hesitation in signing Welbeck

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted he had "no hesitation" in moving to sign Danny Welbeck from Manchester United on the last day of the summer transfer window. The Gunners completed a £16 million deal for the England forward late on deadline day after Radamel Falcao joined the Red Devils on a season-long loan. Welbeck's sale has been criticised by the likes of former United captain Gary Neville and Wenger has admitted he jumped at the opportunity to bring the 23-year-old to north London. He told reporters: "We lost an important striker in Olivier Giroud and we're short in numbers up front. Danny Welbeck is an ideal signing for us because he can play through the middle, which I think is his best position, and also on the flanks. "He brings a team attitude, which is very important to us, pace as well and as you can see with England, goalscoring." "We sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United so that was reciprocity," he joked. "I thought when they bought Falcao that they had to let somebody go but I was not aware at the start, when I heard that, that [Welbeck] could be available. "It was quick, because it was on the last day of the transfer window. I had no hesitation to do it." When asked whether he would have signed Welbeck had Giroud not suffered a long-term injury, the Frenchman replied: "It is possible, yes." Wenger hit back at those questioning his decision to travel to Rome to take part in the first Interreligious Match for Peace at the Stadio Olimpico on deadline day. "If I stayed at my home, Welbeck would not be here," he insisted. "That is the truth." The 64-year-old believes midfielder Aaron Ramsey could play against Manchester City on Saturday despite turning his ankle during Wales' victory over Andorra on Tuesday, as Goal reported on Thursday. "I'm relieved that Ramsey's injury is not serious because we had a nightmare with him last year," Wenger added. "We assess Ramsey today - he has a little chance to be available for Saturday. He has a minor ankle problem." Wenger also confirmed that Mikel Arteta, Kieran Gibbs and Mesut Ozil had all been passed fit to feature against the defending champions.

Ancelotti: Lopez left Real Madrid to find stability

Diego Lopez left Real Madrid in order to find greater "stability" as a player, according to coach Carlo Ancelotti. Lopez joined AC Milan during the summer after slipping back down the pecking order in the Spanish capital, with Iker Casillas and new signing Keylor Navas the favoured options competing for the No.1 spot. Ancelotti has backed the 32-year-old to become a success in Serie A after admitting he feels the player wanted a more consistent playing situation than he had been afforded at Santiago Bernabeu. "In Madrid he was competing for a place with Casillas; he has decided to take on a new challenge, a different style of football in a different league," Ancelotti told Il Giornale. "He's a quality keeper, hard-working and dedicated. He wanted more stability which is why he left Madrid." Madrid have struggled to find their best form since the upheaval of their squad in the summer, which saw Lopez, Alvaro Morata, Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso all leave the club as James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos joined Navas in signing for the European champions. Ancelotti, however, maintains that president Florentino Perez was telling the truth when he said the former Paris Saint-Germain boss was consulted over every deal. "That's right. All of the decisions have been made in accordance with the coach," said Ancelotti. "I'm curious to see how he [Morata] gets on in Italy. I know him well and he needs to play regularly because he is still young." Madrid have been dealt further blows by injuries suffered by Dani Carvajal and Sami Khedira during the international break and Ancelotti concedes he is weary of seeing players return to club duty with problems. "We're not having much luck with the national teams, it's been the same story from last year until now," he added.

Southampton 'blocked' my exit, explains Schneiderlin

SouthamptonmidfielderMorgan Schneiderlinhas shed light on the transfer saga that overshadowed his summer.
The France international was heavily linked with a move away from St Mary's with Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool all interested in the central midfielder, but Southampton stood firm, blocking a proposed exit.
And although the 24-year-old says he was 'disappointed' not to be allowed to leave the club, he has accepted the decision.

He toldRMC: "My situation was simple: at the end of the season my goal was to take the next step and join a club playing in the Champions League or the Europa League.
"There were offers on the table but Southampton made a clear choice, which was to keep me after the departure of certain players. They look to me for the future.
"I was 'blocked' but I must accept that because I have three years remaining on my contract. I could not afford to make a fuss and not play. I owe a lot to Southampton, who enabled me to make the France national team.
"I could not afford to go and clash with supporters who have always been cool with me. It would not have cool for me to end up in an endless showdown."
And though Schneiderlin had his heart set on a move, infamously tweeting "6 years of an amazing journey DESTROYED in 1 hour!!!", he puts his inclusion in the France national team down to his time on the south coast.
Speaking toL'Equipe, he added: "I will continue working with my club. Even though I was a little disappointed not to be able to leave this summer, I know it's part of football.
"Southampton did everything to keep me and they also made some nice signings.
"It is thanks to them that I got into the French team, and now I have to focus on Southampton so I can be selected regularly."

Hiddink is more relaxed than Van Gaal - Sneijder

GalatasaraymidfielderWesley Sneijdersays that life in theNetherlandssquad is "more relaxed" underGuus Hiddinkthan it was withLouis van Gaal.
Sneijder was part of theOranjeside who surpassed expectations at the World Cup this summer as they finished third in Brazil following a 3-0 play-off win over the host nation.
Van Gaal stepped down at the end of the tournament to take over at Manchester United, with Hiddink taking charge for his second spell in an attempt to guide the team to the finals of Euro 2016 in France.
"With Louis, everything was more closed," Sneijder toldDe Volkskrant.
"I only knew Guus Hiddink as a person. The first impression is as I expected: things are more relaxed under him.
"Under Van Gaal, the atmosphere at the World Cup was perfect, though. Now, if there is laughter, it's a little bit louder.
"There is also room for relaxation but [Hiddink] is very clear and accepts no slacking."

Coman: PSG the wrong place for youngsters

Kingsley Coman has made it clear he has no regrets over his decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Juventus this summer. The 18-year-old left the Ligue 1 champions on a free transfer as he felt he wasn't taken seriously at PSG and he has little doubt that moving to Turin was the right decision for his development as a player. "PSG have a great team, but you are easily ignored when you're young," Coman tol Canal+. "The club need results, both in France and in Europe. I think that I was regarded as a good player, but more as a good youngster. Not like all the other players. "Only when I said that I would leave did they start taking me seriously. But it was too late then. "PSG made a difference between a young professional and a normal professional player. "They don't think like that at Juventus. They proposed to me a five-year contract, which was proof to me that their promises weren't empty words." Coman made his official debut in Juventus' 1-0 Serie A win over Chievo on August 30.

Manchester United exit a huge relief for Kagawa, says Kehl

Sebastian Kehl is hopeful Shinji Kagawa can find his old form again at Borussia Dortmund as leaving Manchester United this summer was a huge relief for the Japan international. The 25-year-old left BVB in the summer of 2012, but failed to make an impact at Old Trafford and returned to the Bundesliga giants in August after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal. "You could see that it was a huge relief for Shinji Kagawa [to have left Manchester United for Dortmund]," Kehl was quoted as saying by Sport Bild. "It was not an easy situation for him at Manchester in the past few weeks. And then there were some comments from his coach that prompted him to return to Dortmund. "He gets a lot of faith here. Everything that he's been missing in the past few months, he'll get back here again." Kagawa won two Bundesliga titles and one DFB Pokal during his first spell at Dortmund.

Pictured below is Connor Huntley, he was discovered last year with a hammer stuck in his head, after his 21 year old homophobic flat mate, Joseph Williams had attacked him in his sleep with the hammer in Kent, UK.

Thankfully Williams got up and realised what he did then made a frantic call to the police and confessed to the attack.

He told the emergency centre:"I don't know how to say this but he's dead in my flat. I hit him on the head with a hammer in his sleep."

Medics say that Connor's case is just miraculous because most people don't survive such attacks.

Williams friends have accused him of being a known homophobic and had always hated his roommates lifestyle.

A Soldier Raped Me At Night – Student Narrates Her Ordeal

A 23-year-old National Diploma student of Mass Communication Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State, has accused a soldier attached to the state security outfit, Operation Burst, of raping her.

The incident was said to have occurred on the Friday night, August 29, 2014.
The student said the soldier raped her three times within five hours under a tree while she was returning to her apartment at the Oke Ola area, Eruwa, when she was arrested by the soldier around 10.30 pm on the allegation that she was a cult member.
According to Vanguard, the student narrated her ordeal.
She said:"I was coming back to my room after seeing off a friend. He accused me of being a cultist for moving about around that time, but I denied it.
He then ordered me to climb his motorcycle, but I pleaded with him that he should let me go."He removed a knife and said that he would stab me if I refused to obey him. So scared, I climbed the Okada and he took me to the Operation Burst office in Eruwa."
When we got there, he forcefully led me to a dark area under a tree and ordered me to remove my dress to enable him see if I had tattoos on my body.

"He then removed the knife again and said that he would slaughter me like a ram if I failed to 'cooperate' and that I would be buried like many other girls who had failed to cooperate in the past, and nobody would trace my death to him.
"Sensing danger, I removed my clothes. He ordered me to lie down under the tree and had sex with me several times while I was crying."He raped me till 3.30 am and when I complained of catching cold, he entered into the office and brought out a bottle of beer which he gave to me and then went to get a blanket for me to cover my body"
"After waiting for about 30 minutes, but when he did not return, I dressed up and ran away."
The counsel, Adeosun who confirmed the incident said other soldiers walked pass the randy soldier while the "disgusting act was going on" and did nothing.
Adeosun said in a statement:"The act was reported at Eruwa Police Station in the morning. The victim was taken to the Operation Burst office where an identification parade was carried out and she identified the randy soldier.
"He admitted raping her and begged for forgiveness. Our client was taken to the General Hospital in Eruwa for test. The hospital said it had no gloves to carry out test, so the victim had to buy a pair not far from the hospital. Dr. Jesim Gambo, who conducted the test only used the torchlight in his telephone to examine her private parts and concluded in his report that although she did not see sperm in the vagina, there was evidence that it was tampered with.
"He also wrote that the examination was inconclusive,"he said.

Meanwhile the outfit's Second in Command, CSP Elijah Bawa said he dispatched a team of team to investigate the allegation of rape and the complaint was taken to the Eruwa General Hospital for medical examination, the result of which they said proved negative.
However, he said the soldier will be charged for abandoning his duty post in the night without permission against standing instructions in the Operation Burst's code of conduct".
The security men attached to Operation Burst was set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State to check criminality in the state.

Spain 5-1 Macedonia: European champions bounce back from World Cup woes

Spain strolled to a comfortable 5-1 win over Macedonia on Monday to get off their European Championship defence off to an ideal start.
In Spain's first competitive game since their group-stage exit at the World Cup and the subsequent retirements of Xavi, Xabi Alonso and David Villa, Manchester City playmaker David Silva displayed his undoubted quality on Monday in an ultimately straightforward win.
Silva had a hand in four of Spain's five goals, winning a penalty that defender Sergio Ramos converted for the opener before playing a crucial part in Valencia striker Paco Alcacer's debut goal at the home of local rivals Levante.
Macedonia pulled one back through a Agim Ibraimi penalty but, although the Balkan outfit deserved a goal from a creditable performance, they were no match for the European champions.
Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets made it three on the stroke of half-time with Silva getting the goal his performance merited five minutes after the interval to end the game as a contest.
The gloss to a five-star performance came in the final minutes as Barca forward Pedro completed the rout by netting from another fine Silva pass.
Spain started well but it was the visitors who surprisingly had the first real sight of goal as midfielder Ibraimi forced Iker Casillas into action, the Real Madrid goalkeeper tipping over from the Maribor man's free kick.
That scare seemed to jolt Spain into life, Cesc Fabregas curling narrowly wide of the far post following good build-up play from Vicente del Bosque's men.
And in the 15th minute the hosts did find a way through asRamosexecuted a stylish chipped spot kick after Daniel Mojsov was ruled to have brought down Silva.
Silva was at the heart of most of Spain's forays forward and was involved again in their superb second, which arrived just two minutes later.
The 28-year-old curled an excellent ball to the far post for Juanfran to volley across goal and into the path of local boyAlcacerto fire into an empty net.
Many would have expected Macedonia to fold after going two behind but instead they rallied and got back into the game in the 28th minute throughIbraimi, who slotted into the bottom corner from 12 yards following Juanfran's poor challenge on Aleksandar Trajkovski.
But Macedonia continued to look fallible in defence and, after goalkeeper Tomislav Pacovski had denied both Pedro and Silva, they conceded a third throughBusquets'long-range strike, which deflected off Vanche Shikov on the way in.
Bosko Durovski's men almost made the dream start to the second half as striker Adis Jahovic was thwarted by a one-on-one save from Casillas.
Spain then punished Macedonia for Jahovic's profligacy, withSilvarewarded for an inventive display by finding the net with a low drive into the bottom corner.
Fabregas cannoned a shot off the crossbar before the hour mark and Spain got their fifth in the first minute of injury time with a delightful lofted finish fromPedroto cap a win that extended an unbeaten run in qualifiers that stretches back to 2006.

Benatia: Chelsea & Manchester City also wanted me

Bayern Munichdefender Mehdi Benatia has revealed that Chelsea and Manchester City were also keen to sign him after Roma decided to sell the him this summer.
The Morocco international was heavily linked with Premier League sides throughout the summer transfer window, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also keen, before he eventually moved to the Allianz Arena.
"Manchester City and Chelsea wanted me, while there were also approaches from Real Madrid and Barcelona," Benatia was quoted as saying byKicker.
"I discussed my future with Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini. He told me that the club wanted to hold on to me, but that they needed the money from a sale. That annoyed me, because I initially wanted to stay put.
"But let it be clear, I was happy to join Bayern Munich. I like Munich - even if it's a bit cold here."
The 27-year-old then went on to stress that he doesn't feel any extra pressure because of his €26m pricetag.
"It doesn't make any difference for me whether I join a club on a free transfer or for a big fee," the centre-half insisted.

Mourinho: Van Gaal will succeed at Manchester United

Chelseamanager Jose Mourinhoexpects Louis van Gaalto recover from the poor start to his reign at Manchester Unitedand be a success at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman is still awaiting his first competitive win as United boss since being appointed as David Moyes's successor, but has brought in the likes of Argentina winger Angel Di Maria and Colombian striker Radamel Falcao as he works to rebuild the squad.
Mourinho, who worked under Van Gaal at Barcelona and cites the Red Devils boss as one of his managerial influences, has no doubts that the 63-year-old will reverse United's fortunes.

"He is one of the best managers in the world so I think he is a man with great experience for the job," Mourinho told Yahoo.
"Manchester United is a big team [and] he is a big manager so I think they will do well together."
By contrast to United, Chelsea have a 100 per cent record from their first three Premier League games and have already netted 11 goals.
Mourinho has adopted a more free-flowing style of play in his second spell at Stamford Bridge, although he warns that it is likely to cost his side points during the campaign.
"It's a direction we tried to establish since the beginning of last season but our squad now is different. We have different qualities now in our players," he added.
"The second season normally is a good season for a manager because you come from one season of work and you can choose a better direction you want to go and we feel comfortable and we feel happy the way we are doing things.
"Are we going to lose matches? Obviously, yes, but in this moment we are getting results and we are enjoying our style of play."

Munir: Spain debut my childhood dream

Barcelona youngster Munir El Haddadi says he has fulfilled a "childhood dream" representing Spain following his debut on Monday against Macedonia.
Vicente del Bosque's men comfortably defeated the visitors 5-1 in their Euro 2016 qualification opener to begin to plaster over their World Cup wounds from the summer.
Munir, who has enjoyed a superb start to 2014-15 as part of Luis Enrique's Barca squad, was handed his international debut with 13 minutes left on the clock to end speculation over whether he would represent Spain or Morocco at senior level.
Morocco's coach Badou Ezzaki took a dig at the 19-year-old for choosing la Roja, saying "patriotism is not something to negotiate", but Munir insists that he had always intended to represent the country of his birth rather than his parental heritage.
"I never doubted about playing for Spain," he told Teledeporte. "I was born here and I am very happy to have made my debut.
"To play for Spain was my own decision. I knew what it meant [that it ruled out a future Morocco appearance] to appear for Spain. This is a childhood dream come true."
Spain are back in action on October 9 against Slovakia, who sit in second place behind the reigning European champions in Group C after one game.

Alcacer: Scoring first Spain goal is wonderful

Paco Alcacerwas quick to express his delight after scoring his first goal for Spainin the 5-1 win over Macedoniaon Monday.
The Valencia striker found the net in the 17th minute of the Euro 2016 qualifier, firing into an empty goal from Juanfran's cut-back, doubling Spain's advantage after Sergio Ramos had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
Macedonia pulled one back thanks to an Agim Ibraimi spot-kick, but Sergio Busquets' first goal for Spain and further strikes from the outstanding David Silva and Barcelona forward Pedro made it an easy victory for the reigning European champions.
And Alcacer, who dedicated the goal to his late father, revealed that his strike was made even more enjoyable by the fact it came in the city of his birth.
"I am very happy with the game. To play here on Levante's pitch in Valencia, my home, and to top it with a goal and a victory, is wonderful," the 21-year-old toldTVE.
"This team has a lot of quality and it was only a matter of time before a big win was recorded with good play and goals. There are players with a lot of quality and that has been demonstrated.
"Of course this is for my father. I remember him every day. He's always with me and I dedicate this important goal."

Rooney: Fast counter attack key to England victory

Wayne Rooneybelieves England'sability to counter attack quickly was key to their 2-0 victory over Switzerland.
Roy Hodgson's side secured three points in their opening Euro 2016 qualifying fixture following Danny Welbeck's second-half double.
"We played some great stuff today," Rooney toldITV. "We defended well as a team which was important. We caught them well on the break with the speed we've been talking about. Danny got two great goals, I'm delighted for him."
England were criticised for their display in Wednesday's 1-0 friendly win over Norway at Wembley but Rooney admits his team-mates were always prioritising the match against Switzerland.
"I think we all knew the game of Wednesday night was going to be difficult coming off the back of a world cup. We got the victory, it wasn't the best of performances, but tonight was more important, we was focusing more or this than Wednesday night," said Rooney.
"We've put the work in. Worked on our defensive shape when we haven't got the ball and then springing from defence to attack, which you saw with the two goals tonight.
"We're pleased. The things we've worked on the training ground have paid off, so it's a happy performance for us."

Falcao 'like a kid' over Manchester United move

Radamel Falcaoinsists he has lived the last week "like a kid" having sealed a deadline day loan move toManchester United.
The Colombia international joined fellow new signing Daley Blind at Old Trafford on Monday, with United being granted an extension to sign the star in the early hours of the morning.
He tweeted last Saturday that he had realised a dream by signing for Real Madrid, only to later delete it, while there were also links with moves to Manchester City and Juventus.

And Falcao says he is ready to fire United up the league after a difficult few days.
"For me it is amazing," he toldthe Observerwhen asked about his move to United. "I am very happy. I hope to give my team the best and help to bring a lot of goals and victories.
"I think I have lived this week very intensely. It hasn't been the most comfortable week to work in, with all of the changes, but I have lived it like a kid. I have had the same feeling as when I debuted for the national team. It was very exciting and special and I enjoyed being back."
Falcao came off the bench late on in the 1-0 defeat to Brazil on Friday in Miami, where he is understood to be applying for a fast-track visa to be able to face QPR on September 14.
"I now leave in a very good condition to join my club and I hope to be available next week," he added. "I go to Manchester with lots of hopes to try to win a place in the team and then come back to play for Colombia. It's better to not overthink and let things happen normally instead."

Serena Williams can be the best player in history, says Billie Jean King

Ahead of the US Open final, former world No1 Billie Jean King opens up on the special bond she has with Serena and Venus Williams.

When Serena Williams walks out on Sunday for the US Openfinal, played on the cavernous main stadium at the Billie Jean King Tennis Centre, her supporters will include the very woman the facility is named after.

This is not simply a case of American solidarity. As King explained toTelegraph Sport, she has been following the Williams sisters' careers since she first played an exhibition match "some time in the mid-1990s" involving a pair of pint-sized prodigies. Now, two decades on, she believes that Serena must rank among the greatest players the game has ever seen.
"She's right near the top, that's for sure," said King. "I expect her to get to 18 major titles here and tie with Chris [Evert] and Martina [Navratilova], and after that the next goal will be Steffi Graf on 22. I can imagine her doing that. I told her years ago that I was only on 12. I said 'If you don't do a lot better than 12 I will be upset with you because you could be the best ever.'
"How long can she go on for? It's down to whether she wants to pay the price or not. I played until 40. She hasn't had major operations which is what I look at. She is a phenomenal athlete. She gets a lot of free points on her serve and that's a major factor. Both Serena and Venus go in and out [in their commitment to tennis], because they have other interests, but lately they are in because they realise they are getting older and time is starting to run out."
One reason for King's enormous admiration for both Williams sisters is that they have continued her trailblazing work in fighting for equal rights on the tennis court. It was Venus, in particular, who stood up in front of the Wimbledon committee in 2005 and gave a heartfelt speech about her lifelong dream of playing on Centre Court. She won the argument so conclusively that Wimbledon confirmed equal prize money two years later.
The connection between these women is deep-seated, as King "in her own subtle and sagacious way" had spent years priming Venus and Serena to fight the good fight. When they joined the American Fed Cup team in the late 1990s, two smart young women who still knew more about the ghettoes of Compton than they did about the history of their chosen sport, King was the team captain who set about educating them.
"When we were in Ancona [the venue for Serena's 1999 Fed Cup debut in Italy] I took them into the media room and they had all these photos of the old players," said King. "I just kept teaching through questions. I said: 'Who's the first person of colour to ever play in a major?' They knew it was Althea [Gibson]. I said 'What year?' They said '1975! 1980!'" Actually it was 1956.
"It was adorable. I'm going 'It doesn't matter. It's not a test.' I'd just get them fired up. Then maybe I'd teach them that women couldn't get a credit card until 1973 on their own without it co-signed by a guy. They said: 'Really? Oh my God, that would be rough. I have a credit card!' Just little things. You teach them history in a fun sort of way.
"Zina [Garrison, the 1990 Wimbledon finalist] and I were the coaches then and we really did help them. We taught Serena all about her sliced backhand. And the first time she won here at the Open [in 1999] was the first time she's played Fed Cup just before. She won the match on two sliced backhands in the tie-break at the end with [Martina] Hingis. I'll never forget Zina running up to me, crying after the match and saying: 'We helped her win!'" Now 70, King is still dynamic and razor-sharp; a woman who has already given an incalculable amount to sport, and to the cause of gender equality, yet continues to fight for what she believes in. This December, she will bring the Mylan World Team Tennis Smash Hits team to the Albert Hall for a fund-raising day, co-hosted by Elton John, in aid of HIV research.
More than 20 years ago, King anticipated Amelie Mauresmo's breakthrough into men's tennis by coaching Tim Mayotte, the top 10 player of the late 1980s. Now, she would willingly help any contemporary player who asked for her advice, but she ruefully admits that the calls have dried up.
"Today's players don't even know we exist," she said. "They think old is now the McEnroe, Navratilova age group. It always happens. I saw it happen to the players older than I am. I saw them not being appreciated.
"But I believe I could get someone like Gael Monfils turned around. To me, the reason he's so goofy is that he doesn't think he deserves to win. I think Andy Murray could do with flipping his psychology too. I wish I had some time with him, because I really like all that stuff."

Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago snubbed Chelsea return

Former Chelsea midfielder Tiago has confirmed he rejected the chance to return to the club this summer in favour of re-signing with Atletico Madrid.

Tiago, 33, first joined Chelsea in 2004 but spent just one season at Stamford Bridge before moving to France to play for Lyon.
He helped Atletico win the La Liga title last term, as well as finish runners-up to Real Madrid in the Champions League, but he was out of contract in July.
The Portugal international has now confirmed he was offered the chance to re-join Jose Mourinho at Chelsea for a second time before opting to extend his stay at the Vicente Calderon.
"The summer was very difficult. I want to explain to the fans what happened but there are some things I cannot explain because they are not important," he told AS.
"At the end of last season, I received a great offer [from Chelsea] and it made me think about making a change. But I realised that the most important thing was to feel important at a club.
"I spoke to Cholo [Atletico boss Diego Simeone] and he told me he wanted me in the squad in the next training session. From then, I could only think of rejoining Atletico and wearing this shirt again.
"I am happy and grateful to everyone and to the club for having me back. I will give everything on the pitch to return their efforts."

Sergio Romero denies ever refusing a move to Manchester United

Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero has denied reports that he turned down an opportunity to play for Manchester United before the transfer window closed.
As deadline day loomed last week, reports linked Romero to United as a backup for David De Gea, but the Argentine ultimately stayed with Sampdoria.
The 27-year-old keeper said no player would be able to turn down a move to Old Trafford.
"I've had two or three possibilities but none of them were positively concluded," Romero told Il Secolo XIX.
"I've not asked more money to go to Benfica and I've read I would have refused United. But in your opinion, there is someone able to refuse one of the world's top club?"
Romero said he is happy to remain at Sampdoria now that the transfer window has closed.
"I want to show my value here, so I'll be able o find my space," he said. "I've spoken with the president, the sporting director and coach Sinisa Mihajilovic, who told me that should I do good things, he will give me an opportunity."

Nigeria vs Congo: Shock For Players And Fans

Nigeria's Super Eagles had their first qualifying match in Group A on their way to Morocco for AFCON 2015 on September 6, 2014, Saturday.
It all started well, especially after an early goal by Afe Ambrose, about 13 minutes after the start. But then it was a shock for the defending African champions and their fans. Three conceded goals in a row put the team 1-3 behind. The search for two late equalizers was only 50% successful.
The Super Eagles lost their first game in Calabar, 2-3. Before today, their worst performance at this stadium was a 1-1 draw vs Kenya last year.

Release Chibok Girls Dead Or Alive – Parents

Its been over 130 days since the over 200 Chibok school girls were kidnapped by the dreaded Boko Haram sect on April 14 in Borno, the traumatized parents have called on the Federal Government to go to Sambisa forest and bring back the corpse of their children dead or alive.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, the chairman of Chibok Local government, Tsambido Hosea, in an interview with Premium Times on Friday, August 29 during a protest to mark the 130th day in Abuja said the parents have not been able to move on with their lives since the abduction of the girls.
He said the parents have given up hope and are seeking a logical end to their trauma either by burial or reunion.

Chibok Chairman, Tsambido Hosea said: "The parents say they don't care about their life but let them go in. If they can take care of this Boko Haram, so that they will not spread to other places. So that they cannot continue with their menace.
"Let the girls be sacrificial lambs. That's what they told me yesterday.
"I phoned them, that I know that I am going to face some interviews today. What is your opinion? So this their opinion.
"Actually, if the federal government has that capacity, let them go into the Sambisa. If there are some that God said will be rescued, it can be rescued by the force.
"And if some has gone, its okay, than all this troubles, than all this trauma the parents are going through now.

"They cannot do anything. But had it been they buried them, they would have forged ahead with their lives.
"They are saying let the government go into the forest. Even the corpse, let them bring the corpse of the children so that they will bury them properly.
"What they are saying is that these girls in the bush, it is better for the government, to go in with the force, with the army might to bring them even the corpse for them, so that they can bury them properly."
"If the Federal government has that capacity, let them go into the Sambisa. If there are some that God said would be rescued, they can be rescued by the force and if some have gone, it's better (to know) than this entire trauma the parents are going through," he said.

Italy have no problem with Balotelli - Buffon

ItalygoalkeeperGianluigi Buffonhas insisted that the national side have no problem withMario Balotelli.
New Azzurri coach Antonio Conte left the Liverpool striker out of his first squad since being named as successor to Cesare Prandelli, following a 2013-14 in which Balotelli struggled to replicate the form he had shown in his first six months at AC Milan.
Buffon did not want to wade into the debate over whether Balotelli deserved to be called up, instead hinting that it is not up to Italy players to educate the 24-year-old on behaviour off the pitch.
"We are players and Mario is our team-mate," the goalkeeper told reporters. "We don't have a problem with him.
"We are not so presumptuous enough to think that we can teach someone how to act or how to live, because it's not as if we are 50 years older.
"I just think there is a coach and he decides what is best for the group. It is not our job to comment on who gets called up.
"I think players, as they are still young, do not have great self-discipline. It is inevitable that some coaches will push them from the start and that probably helps."
Balotelli's absence from the national side means that he will play no part in Italy's opening Euro 2016 qualifier against Norway on Tuesday.
Instead, the forward is next expected to be in action when Liverpool face Aston Villa in the Premier League in what is set to be his home debut for the Reds.

Welbeck's Arsenal move can help England - Rooney

Wayne Rooneybelieves Danny Welbeck's move from Manchester Unitedto Arsenalwill have a positive effect on England's striking options.

Welbeck completed a £16 million move to the Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day, following the big-money arrivals of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria at Old Trafford.
He could be set for an extended run in Arsene Wenger's side when domestic football resumes next week, with Olivier Giroud sidelined for four months.
And, while Rooney accepts Welbeck had a difficult decision to make in leaving his boyhood club, the United and England skipper believes the 23-year-old has made a switch that will benefit all involved.
"Danny is a lively player, an impact player," Rooney said.
"He is quick, he can score goals and I am sure with him getting the move to Arsenal now, hopefully he can play up front for Arsenal. That will really help him with England.
"He is a Manchester lad and I spoke to him a few times.
"It was a really tough decision for him to move, but for his professional career, he felt he had to.
"Hopefully he can get a few games up front which would benefit him for England."
Welbeck will be hoping to take advantage of Daniel Sturridge's thigh injury to line up alongside Rooney in England's attack when they open their Euro 2016 qualification campaign in Switzerland on Monday.

Real Madrid better than Bayern, says Kroos

European championsReal Madridare better than dethroned 2012-13 Champions League winnersBayern Munich, according toToni Kroos.
The midfielder swapped the Allianz Arena, where he has played since his first-team debut in 2007, for the Santiago Bernabeu this summer in a reported £23.7m move.
And Kroos believes that Carlo Ancelotti's men are bigger than the Bavarian giants, but insists that there was no fallout between him and Bayern boss Pep Guardiola which caused him to ditch the Bundesliga for La Liga.
"We are talking about the two biggest teams in the world," he told Bild when asked to compare the two clubs. "However, I think that overall Real Madrid are one step ahead.
"I remember my presentation with Real Madrid where 20,000 people turned up despite me not having played a minute. In Germany that is unthinkable.
"Guardiola had nothing to do with my departure. I understand football just like him, he fine tuned my game and helped me improve as a player.
"My signing has been a 100 per cent about success and I'm happy at Real Madrid."
Xabi Alonso went in the other direction late in the window and the 24-year-old believes the Spain international's experience will help Bayern, despite not seeing any correlation between the Spaniard's switch and his own.
"He is an extraordinary player," Kroos added. "He will help Bayern a lot, I hope. I do not see any connection between my move and Xabi's to Bayern, though."

Fight For Bama: Military Deploy Nigeria's Warplanes - Its a Full Scale War!!!

Nigerian military allegedly use country's warplanes for carrying out air strikes in Bama previously seized by Boko Haram insurgents.

After the insurgents had recently taken over the strategic town of Borno state displacing locals and forcing soldiers to flee from the area, the military were said to continue counter-strike attacks on Boko Haram bases in Bama, this time deploying warplanes.

It was disclosed by a senior official, who pleaded anonymity while speaking with Reuters yesterday. According to him, air strikes have been carried out "on all the Boko Haram bases", which he said reflected President Goodluck Jonathan's order for a "fully-fledged war" against insurgents operating in the North-East.
Within a short period of time Boko Haram captured several strategic towns, including Gwoza, Bama and several others. Inspired by their success, the militants are believed to move further in an attempt to seize Maiduguri. It would be noted that after capturing Gwoza Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau claimed Islamic Caliphate in the area. Now the terrorists' aim is apparently to expand the caliphate.
On situation in Bama, Vanguard also reports referring to Reuters interview with Musa Sumail, a human rights activist in Maiduguri who said:
"Even today, we can see so many people leaving … the buses are going out plenty now."

Meanwhile the Nigerian Defence Headquarters insisted they would do everything possible to defend the territorial integrity of the country.
In a statement released September 5 by the the Nigerian military and signed by the Defence Spokesman Chris Olukolade it was stressed that "the DHQ wishes to reiterate the pledge and commitment it made while briefing the Joint Committee on Defence of the National Assembly to the effect that everything will be done to reverse the situation and defeat the rampaging terrorists."

MESSY DIVORCE: Chris Oyakhilome Allegedly Sacks Pastor

The divorce saga between Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and wife, Rev Anita is getting messier as the latest reports is that one of the Pastors in the church has been sacked over the bitter feud.

According to The Sun's findings, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has allegedly sacked one of his top pastors, Reverend Grace for allegedly raising a prayer team to pray for the restoration of peace in the Oyakhilomes' marriage.

Rev. Grace is said to have worked with Rev Anita Oyakhilome at the London branch of the church.
Meanwhile one of the ministers, who spoke with The Sun said: "We suspected this issue is going to go public some day since the day Pastor Chris sacked Rev Grace for meddling in his family affairs by openly calling for prayers among some members in London when Rev Anita stopped coming to the church she was shepherding while all efforts to get her failed. Some us believe our colleague in London did the right thing by seeking spiritual help for the family but I think Pastor Chris misread her intention and had to travel to London when he heard of the move to sack her and contain the spread of rumour among members in London."
Apart from the sack of the London pastor, another issue connected to the divorce, which has also been generating tension in the church, is the cry of female ministers who are accusing Pastor Chris of introducing"controversial rules that are now threatening the foundation of many marriages in the church."

A female church member of one of the Christ Embassy branches in Abuja told Saturday Sun that"the revolt of Rev Anita will be a child's play to the one that people will soon see when we open up on how a secret policy introduced some time early this year has been tearing many families and homes apart in our parishes across the country. This is a strange directive that husbands and their wives must not worship or attend the same parish. Now, if a couple is a member of a parish, one of them has to be posted to another parish and this is fuelling adultery in the church in no small measure. Some of us who are female ministers that have been separated from our husbands, we are already talking. Some have started revolting against the order in their parishes while some have refused to obey such transfer orders."
Another top female official of the church in one of the parishes located in Ikeja corroborated the story when she told Saturday Sun:"The policy is real but it is creating tension in the church already." The female minister, whose husband has been transferred out of the parish they have been attending together for years to give effect to the policy further, stated: "It's a heartbreaking development because now we know that that directive was introduced to justify why Pastor Chris has to be in Lagos and his wife in London but beyond that, it is encouraging immorality while the church believes that we have an unusual grace that covers our human failings including adultery."

Coming down to her personal experience, the female minister disclosed that soon after her husband was transferred to a parish far away from their initial one:"one of the male ministers where I am to stay back started winking at me. The first Sunday I felt he did that unknowingly or without any ulterior motive but the following Sunday he came to shake hands with me after service and what he did was to use one of his fingers to scratch my palm during the handshake. I was miffed but I couldn't do anything because he will deny and I will look stupid but since then he got my message because I stopped greeting him."

Munir: My jaw dropped after Spain call-up

Barcelona starlet Munir El Haddadi admits that he was left open-mouthed after being called up to the Spain squad to replace Diego Costa.

The Chelsea forward has left the national squad following their 1-0 defeat to France in order to receive treatment on a hamstring problem. Coach Vicente del Bosque opted to replace Costa with the uncapped Munir for Monday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia and the 19-year-old could not believe it when the call came.

"When they told me, my mouth fell open. It's a dream to play for the Spain team and I'm very happy," he told reporters.

"I've realised a dream. It's a moment I want to enjoy, an opportunity to take, and to give my best." Munir, who has also been eligible to play for Morocco, says that he would relish the chance to represent Spain at Euro 2016 in two years' time.

"Every trophy you can win is good and to be there would be a hugely proud moment, to play with the Spain team is what I would like to do," he added.

"I've followed the national team every summer that they have played since I was small and now I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me at every turn."
